I know I've done this before, but I'm killing time while waiting for my laundry to finish by going through the fics I've written that are in my memories. So I'm doing it again, because it's always fun to see what people pick and give everybody a few new stories to read.

The meme? Pimp a story that you wrote.

It doesn't matter the fandom, the length, or the pairings, and it doesn't matter whether it's the best story you've ever written or simply one you just love a lot that doesn't get nearly enough play in your book. The only rule is that it has to a be a story you wrote. That's all.

My pick? Just because I can't believe I wrote it, I Seek A Silent Fortress. I wrote Shawshank Redemption fic, for crying out loud. And I did it while I was still pretty drunk after the Super Bowl. And it still turned out damn good, if I do say so myself. :)

Okay, now you guys go. ;)

My pimpage is a story titled "Images," which was inspired by listening to Debussy's piano pieces of the same name, and a one-act play titled Jigga Wha'?. They're in my writing journal, [livejournal.com profile] gnarlybuttons, which is regularly flocked, but I've unlocked these two entries. I post there pretty rarely anyway.

Both are original, incidentally - not fanfic.

My faves are Dangerous (http://www.allaboutspike.com/fic.html?id=363) and Backward Glances (http://www.allaboutspike.com/fic.html?id=395).

These are related, since Dangerous is a short ficlet that sets the scene for Backward Glances, which is set 30 years later.

I really think that I got Spike right in these. They're scary and sexy and just heart-wrenching.

Most people, though, prefer my story Glimpses (http://www.allaboutspike.com/fic.html?id=146), especially the non-canon ending where Spike deflowers Buffy.

I think this Pirates of the Caribbean story is still the best piece of fanfic I've ever written. Even if it was an idea that I got while in the shower.

(Also, drop me a line with your mailing address, I'll be sending out Doctor Who things on Monday, so I can get yours in the mail...)

More Than Two Men. Batman, Dick Grayson/Tim Drake. With possibly a /Bruce Wayne and a /Batman added. I like my fucked-up fandom.

Oh, I read this last night, and I have to tell you that it is probably my favorite Nightwing /Batman story like, EVAR. Wooo! I think this one has to be printed out and saved.

Night, PotC, one of the only things I wrote with hardly any dialogue. I find it really hard to write descriptively, and this is one of the only vignette-y non-dialogue things I've ever written that I actually /like/.

Definitely one of my all time faves, and it gets recycled in The Word of a Pirate (I never denied I was lazy...)

All I have to offer is Parallax, a Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords ficlet. It's...not really all that spoilery if you're even interested in the game, and I'm still not sure that I like how it turned out. :)

I wrote a "Veronica Mars" fanfic called Posession (http://www.livejournal.com/community/veronicamarsfic/234239.html). It's twisted; you should check it out. [grins] I also wrote another one in the same community that gives props to you, but I was too lazy to find the link to it.

I still think this is the best piece of fic I've ever written. No pairing, and quite serious (even morose, one might say), but it was an emotional piece to write and, I hope, a pleasing read.

Fandom is Harry Potter and the topic is Millicent Bulstrode.

Left Untold, by me.

Please ignore the very ill-advised pen name. *sheepish*

Also, please forgive any continuity errors re: familial descent. This was written between books 4 and 5 and I can't be bothered to go and RetCon it all. I commit it to the ages!

While briefly tempted by the fic that causes people to laugh themselves silly, I went for a fic that I know is accessible to people who don't watch House, as I've been told so: Defensive Strategies. It's the aforementioned fandom, the slash pairing that TP once caught five minutes of and went, "They're married, right?" (House/Wilson), and.... I'll just quote the summary:

"In which Wilson has a problem, House has a cunning plan, girls hunt in packs, chocolate cake has unexpected dangers, furniture is unintentionally ordered, several conversations occur, and dinner is repeatedly served. Starring House, Wilson, House & Wilson's Issues, Cuddy, an Original Female Character, and the Original Female Character's Breasts. Trust me, they deserve the separate billing."

Hmm... not that many Smallville slash fics to rec, seeing as that's the only thing I've written the last few years. So for fun I'll really dig into the archives. And possibly scar some people for life.

Rammstein Slash. Yes, you read that right. I came along at a time when there was next to none, and now the fandom has flourished. *wistful*
Most people claim Polish (as in nail polish) as their favorite, but the one I have a personal liking for is Darkness.

Dary yearnings, JAG slash, a pairing of two secondary (sorry, Webb and Palmer) characters who had one scene together on the show, but had so much potential. This was the beginning of a hell of a ride for me as a writer when I realized that I couldn't just write Palmer and Webb having one encounter and drop it - I had two guys who could actually work as a slash pairing if I was willing to put the time and energy into writing their story. I do love this story, and it doesn't require a knowledge of the show to read, or so I'm told.

Hm. I didn't know that I was still so proud of this story. Wow. :-)

From a fandom almost no one knows about, but I actually *liked* writing goofy banter between these two. Big Wolf on Campus is the fandom, and Option Number Two is the fic.

More recently, I'd go for beautiful, and dangerous to know, a Noir fic.

Ooo, shamelesss self-promotion! I like it!

This fall I became quite obsessed with Oscar Wilde -- mostly because I was in a play about him -- and wrote a thank-you story for my director. It's called "Wax Wings" and it's X-Men AU. Mr. Wilde is called into the country to visit a young country lord in Shropshire. Writing a la Oscar got really addictive after a while. Er, hence the length. *halo!*

Also, giddy mischievous hobbitses! This was super-fun to write. Mwahahahaa.

I wrote the PotC story "Self Control" and its companions, Self Reliance" and "Self Preservation". There are parts I'm not happy with, but mostly I can't believe those came out of me.
