Ooo-kay. So, either someone's sarcasm muscle is sprained, or someone is batshit insane. *cocks an eyebrow* It's really too early in the morning for me to distinguish.

Anyway, I realized something yesterday. My favorite McDonald's food (McGriddles) tastes like pancakes. My favorite cookies (maple nut logs) taste like pancakes. My favorite ice cream (maple walnut) tastes like pancakes. I'm sensing a theme here. ;)

EDIT: About halfway down this link at TV Guide is an interview with Rob Thomas that has MAJOR spoilers for season 2 of Veronica Mars. *flails* Okay, I love that man. And the new characters he discusses ... okay, I can deal with them. And his answer to the door question! The door! Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee! (There's also spoilers for some other shows on there, by the way. It's sort of a "Watch With Kristin" kind of thing, so ...)

*flails flails flails* And dammit, I was trying to remain spoiler pure.

But the spoilers! Yes! I'm so much more optimistic now :)

Though it looks like I won't win in the betting pool of who's at the door :P

I could be happy as long as somebody is at the door. Weevil, Wallace, Logan, Duncan ... any of them.

But please, God, let it be Logan. Even though it'll probably be Duncan to set up the triangle. (Which, okay, is a triangle I can totally go for, because Duncan's sweet and all, but Logan is so much more fun and interesting, damn it ...)

*goes back to flailing*

Gill fic? Is this a character or a new form of tentacle porn?

Nah, just a response to the Everyday Superhero Fanfic Challenge. I gave Logan gills. It was situationally appropriate, considering the finale. ;)

what is really sad is that you hold someone up for ridicule if they don't agree that your story is wonderful even though you are very quick to diss other peoples stuff.

From: [identity profile] apocalypsos.livejournal.com
That's not what I meant. It's not about the quality of the story. It's someone comparing a set of gills to pedophilia and bestiality, for crying out loud.

::blink:: Uh, no. She held this person up for ridicule because they either missed the whole point of the everyday superhero challenge, or are batshit insane for being offended by a character with gills and then comparing it to bestiality.

I think pedophilia is the fanfic version of Godwin's Law: The longer a discussion of fanfic goes on, the more likely someone is to bring up pedophilia. And the same corollaries apply. For instance, once you've brought up pedophilia, the discussion is over and you've *lost*!

ridicule is ridicule. it doesn't matter what the reason is you should not hold up anyone for ridicule if they don't agree with what you write for whatever reason. if you can't handle the comments, both good and bad then you don't need to be posting the stuff for people to read.

::shrug:: Look, I try really hard to be nice to everybody, but they need to be nice to me first. The person in question told her she was "sick."

They didn't say, "I really didn't enjoy this story" or "Logan with gills weirded me out" or "The gills didn't make sense" or any of a thousand perfectly rational things.

Anyone who knows me will tell you that I don't tolerate meanness. I've gone to bat a million times for someone's right to express their opinion. But expressing your opinion does not include the right to call someone sick. Sorry.

Oh, pay attention.

It's not a matter of difference of opinion. And it's not a fic crit, either. Seriously, did you hit the link at all?

it doesn't matter if I read it. the fact is she's holding this person up for ridicule. it doesn't matter if their opinion doesn't make sense or isn't logical everyone still has the right to their own opinion and deserves the right not to be held up for ridicule. if she can't handle the negative comments, even if they're stupid, then she shouldn't be posting her stories or doing negative reviews herself.

So if I came out of nowhere and called you worse than a pedophile, my "opinion" would still be worthy of respect and dignity? You wouldn't tell anyone else that someone was being stupid to you on the internet? Or does it have to be related to a fic you wrote first?

it would depend on the context. there is a difference to replying to comments in the original post but when you pull that persons comments out and put it in a new post for everyone to see then that is ridicule and no one should be subjected to it.

No one should be subjected to a ridulous flame either. Flamers, especially cowardly anons, pretty much deserve whatever they get.

but the place for it is in the thread it actually occurred in and not to be held up for ridicule in an entirely different post.

She SHOULD have pasted the troll's comment onto a picture of Saddam Hussein's ass and thrown monkey shit at it. That's what it deserved.

You have a personal axe to grind with Trollprincess so have fun with that.

no, unlike the majority of the people on her friends list I do know her personally. I'm just tired of people being held up for ridicule when they don't have glowing things to say or agree with her.

Oh, I see. You're her mother. "If you can't say anything nice to say, young lady, don't say anything at all."

I do know her personally

Grind, grind, grind. But I'm through responding so, again, have fun.

If that's the way you run your LJ, fine. It's her space, and no one's asking you to come here and read it. So far, you've claimed that it doesn't matter if you've read the comment. Then you've claimed that the appropriateness of the comment and the response is context dependent -- which would mean it DOES matter if you've read it. Now you're telling TP how to run her LJ.

Since all opinions are valid in your world, and therefore ought not be challenged, my opinion is that you should really just save your breath and stop reading TP's LJ if it makes you this upset.

Not really, TP is reacting to a comment directed at her. She's expressing her feelings about it in her journal, it's a perfectly valid place to do things like that, that's what journals are for.

As the person is to cowardly to use their name or LJ id, if they have one (they might even know her), no one gets hurt... except TP, who's compared unfavorably with pedophiles.

But you know, I actually read that comment as a huge, sarcastic joke, but maybe I'm a bit more thick-skinned that usual.

I read it as a huge, sarcastic joke myself, but since it was early morning for and I was half awake, I had to do a double take.

But yeah, I was leaning towards the optimistic view of, "OMGWTFOVERKILL ... add a warning." Which I can handle, no problem. No skin off my nose. :)
