[livejournal.com profile] laurelin_kit, I got your note. GYAH. That man's just made of sex, isn't he? *cuddles Drew Fuller*

In other news, according to AICN, Christian Bale got drunk at a party and told someone that Sean Penn is up for the role of the Joker in the Batman Begins sequel. Oh, please let that be the booze talking, please let that be the booze talking. That man left his sense of humor behind sometime in 1992. (Okay, granted, the article has a solid argument for why that's a good thing, but I think it should be a requirement that you should at least be able to form a smile, even with the use of makeup and special effects, and I'm pretty sure those muscles have atrophied in Sean Penn's face.)

But the IMDb says, British actor Paul Bettany has joined the race to play Batman's nemesis The Joker in a planned sequel to Batman Begins, which in the same pool with Mark Hamill and Crispin Glover would give me a heart attack if I were the casting director. "Well ... well, can't we just put them in a blender and keep them all?! *whimper*"

What does this all mean? It means I need to go see the goddamn movie, that's what it means. (Is it tomorrow yet?! *flails*)

Also, I really need to finish the monster ficathon entry of dooooooooooooom already. (Current word count: A little less than 32k. Sheesh.) After that thought last night about Bruce Campbell, now I'm itching to edit Monsters of Moosic. (I might as well drop the 'The', considering I never use it anymore.) I also shot bolt upright in the middle of the night last night with the realization that I seriously need to either change the ending a bit or let the characters get snarky about the Temple of Doom parallels that I didn't even notice I'd written in there (at the very least, somebody needs to call Sean "Short Round" -- it's a moral imperative) until that whole shooting-bolt-upright thing. And that's not the first time I've woken up like that with sudden editing realizations. God willing, I am not the only one who does that.

It's supposed to be sunny and 92 degrees today. And then sunny and 95 tomorrow. Because someone somewhere loves me and wants me to be happy and sweltering. :)

EDIT: Oh, and USA Today wants to know why nobody's going to the movies. Because the movies this summer suck and any original ideas that snuck into a movie theater this year would die of loneliness within minutes? Just a thought.

Sean Penn?!? Sean "ex-Mr.-Madonna" Penn? No. Just... no.

Paul Bettany is intriguing, tho. Of course, anybody with an accent intrigues me.

...okay. If Paul Bettany were to be the Joker rather than Mark Hamill, I suppose I wouldn't throw too much of a fit.

I'll temper tantrum like a toddler if Sean Penn gets it.

Exactly. Aside from the Sean Penn rumor, all of the casting rumors I've heard for the Joker have been really, really cool.

See, what they really need to do is have Mark Hamill as the Joker and bring back Billy Dee Williams to play Harvey Dent. Specifically because I don't know about anybody else, but I would flip the fuck out. And I'm not even a Star Wars fan. ;)

I'd flip the fuck out, too. Like a ninja.

With less death, though. Unless anybody said either of those two were wrong for the role. Then, the killing.

Nobody's going to the movies? Maybe it's because half of all movies suck, and why spend $8.50 a pop to see them when I can see them in the discount theatre for $2 a month or two after release, or on DVD a little while after that?

My sentiments exactly. One of the best commentaries I've heard on the whole situation was when Bruce Campbell was interviewed on the radio by Don and Mike the other day, and he was complaining about the state of the movies coming out, so he whipped out the movie listings in the newspaper and started reading out the movie titles that were either in the theaters or coming out this summer -- The Honeymooners, War of the Worlds, Dukes of Hazzard, Bewitched, Herbie: Fully Loaded, Batman Begins, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

The more he read, the more I winced. I do want to see those last two, but it doesn't stop me from realizing the way Hollywood's just remaking the same crap over again this year.

Why aren't people going to the movies? Hmm, that's a toughie. How about: As idiotic as the general population can be sometimes, they won't fall for the exact same marketing strategy en masse after a few years. There's only so many remakes and sequels you can take before it gets boring. Same with superhero movies, which I think might have peaked with the 2 big Marvel sequels. This year seems to be the Year of Big Book Adaptations. We'll see how long that lasts; there's only so many big books to adapt.

But see--if they put Mark Hamill in as the Joker, my brain would *break* from the meta or the in-jokes or something. He played the Joker in the animated series, including Return of the Joker, and and--*whimper* I like the pretty shiny movieverse! I don't want it to get as thoroughly mindfucked as the animated 'verse got! *clutches Christian Bale and protects him from the Joker*

Right now, I love the thought of Crispin Glover playing the Joker. But then again, I would kill to see someone let Paul Bettany go batshit fucking insane in a movie.

....asking for John Glover would probably break the minds of too many fanpeople, but oh, man, now I really want him to get the role. hee.

I want Mark Hamill to play the Joker so much! When I read the comics, I hear his voice. Pleasepleaseplease let them cast him!

The news program I watched this morning said that Paul Bettany had actually been cast as the joker. But that was "The Morning Buzz" on my local WB station, so who knows about that accuracy...

Mark Hamill would fit well as Joker (especially since he voiced the role in the animated series), but could just as easily fit the Riddler role if necessary. If you're wondering how I came to that conclusion, look back at either his portrayal of Cock-knocker (from Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back) or the Trickster (from the short-lived TV series based on The Flash from the late 80s/early 90s)...
