I just got back from seeing Batman Begins. My quick thoughts ...

-- I WANT TO HAVE SEX WITH THAT MOVIE. And not just for the pretty, but for the talent. My God, the fucking talent.
-- I'd also like to borrow Jim Gordon and do naughty things to him, mostly involving worship.
-- And Alfred, too. Also for the worship.
-- I'd just like to say that my grandfather's name is Alfred and that now makes him about five kajillion times cooler in my book simply because of Michael Caine's portrayal. I know that sounds stupid, but me ... yeah, not really caring. ;)
-- I know there's a whole thing about the misogyny of the Batverse because most of the women are victims, but seriously, on the flip side, most of the men are batshit fucking insane. I think if all of the strong women and sane men in Gotham got together every Saturday night for a six-pack of beer, there'd be three beers left and that's only because I doubt Selina Kyle would want to be the least bit drunk around any of those people.
-- Cillian Murphy's awfully pretty, isn't he?
-- No, really.
-- No, really. The thing I was most frightened of during his scenes wasn't the whole Scarecrow thing, but the chance that I might leap from my seat and run up to the screen to lovingly nuzzle his lips.
-- ... yeah, I don't get me, either.
-- I didn't hate Katie Holmes. Like, at all. Of course, she did the one thing I'd do if I got anywhere near Bruce Wayne, which is pretty much smack him upside the head and say the polite equivalent of, "What in the ever-loving FUCK is wrong with you?!"
-- Having said that, Christian Bale solidly trumps Michael Keaton in my book. Seriously.
-- Although Michael Keaton was an excellent Batman, but still.
-- One day, Bruce will learn that he doesn't actually have to tell the obligatory vagina who he really is.
-- That will probably be after he goes through every vagina in Gotham.
-- Literally.

I love that movie, too. I need to go see it againandagainandagainandagain, but I also need to be able to afford to go see Potter and Narnia and if I don't watch out, Batman Begins could BANKRUPT ME.

I didn't hate Katie in the movie.. it was just hard to look at her and think "Rachel" as opposed to "Katie", since, well.. yeah. My mom was worried about how she spent half the movie only speaking out of one side of her mouth, whereas I spent the last few scenes distracted by her man-eating nipplage. I did giggle when she bitchslapped Bruce (TWICE!), though, which makes her the second most badassed Bat-chick evar. Nobody trumps Selina. (yet)

Cillian Murphy is, indeed, awfully pretty. I actually wasn't too swoony before the movie, but I guess I have a thing for REALLY PRETTY PSYCHOPATHS. Who knew?

And lastly:

GORDON GOT TO DRIVE THE CAR SQUEE

I agree with pretty much everything you said, except the part about wanting to nuzzle the screen. Just to reiterate: Michael Caine is the best thing in that movie. Which is like saying "the most magical thing in Hogwarts".

Oh, I loved Michael Caine's Alfred. Charging into the fire to save Bruce, casually helping him outfit the cave, settling into the leather seat on the jet back home from Asia ... HEE. LOVE HIM.

I hate to say it, because Christian Bale gives me the creeps, but he *is* Bruce Wayne/Batman. He was simply born to play this role; it's fantastic, and I have to admit that he's sexy as hell in this role.

I went into this movie expecting not to like it as much as every. single. person I know seemed to, but I really couldn't help it. It was phenomenal, despite the Katie and Cillian. *g*

I agree to the Cillian Murphy Yum Factor, and I never tend towards celebrity crushes. But the eyes, dear god, the EYES...

Yeah. take my three favorite actors (freeman, caine, neeson), add a pretty man in a bat suit, and a psychopath with gorgeous eyes, and I'm a happy girl.

(although, I don't think Neeson was the right choice for that role. But maybe I'm just not used to him as a bad guy)

Cillian Murphy IS pretty. But does it bother you that in the 21st century we still make sure the evil character is easily recognizable by his eyeliner? Reminds me of Talented Mr. Ripley and all the old "gayness is something you pick up in the boys home and then it makes you eeeeevil" stuff from the 50s. 60s too maybe.

I loved Neeson in that role. I saw Watanabe credited for Ra's and was "ehhhhhhh... retelling so I GUESS it's okay..." and was left wondering who the hell Ducard was. So, with the big reveal, I was all a-squee and realized I should have known right off the bat because NEESON PRETTY MUCH HAD THE CANONICAL FACIAL HAIR. And that, friends and neighbors, takes talent.

I'm still pouty he never called him "detective", though. ;_;

No fair. The Michael Keaton Batman didn't tell Vicki Vale who he was. Alfred outed him.

This one, at least, was the least offensive Bat-outing, imo.

Hey, the good character wears eyeliner too. He just also wears a bullet-proof Leather Daddy outfit with it.

I had the exact same reaction. There were reports long ago that Liam was playing Ra's before everything started saying it was Watanabe, and I'm quite happy I completely forgot about that until after seeing the movie. Some surprises are fun.

Ducard is a canon character, though - so there was no reason to expect the bait and switch unless you were looking for it. He was a French detective, one of Bruce's many mentors. I found it odd they made him part of the "League of Shadows" but didn't question it.

Then, of course, BAM, and my friend and I went into Liam Neeson fangirl fits because OMG IT'S SO OBVIOUS - but it isn't, really. I haven't been blindsided (in the good way) like that in a movie in so long. I am impressed.

There's still a chance he'll get to. No body, and dude, nothing can kill the Demon's Head. XD *crosses fingers*

I WANT TO SEE RACHEL AS TWO-FACE.

And that's that.

And the blonde kid could be Jason a Robin. He could. The movie can make its own canon as long as it's good. XD *so, so badly wants to see an actual kid as Robin*

I'm still pouty he never called him "detective," though.

Which is the only thing that made me sad about this movie. Still, I have doubts about his deadness (it's Ra's!), so maybe we'll hear it some other time.

You're right about the facial hair, too. And now I'm curious about Talia...because if they go with this particular movie version of events, that'd be hot.

I hope so. I left the theater trying to convince the boyfriend that "Obviously, Ra's survived, because it's Liam Neeson playing a mentor and WHO THE HELL WOULD EXPECT HIM TO LIVE?! IT WOULD BE BRILLIANT!"

I hope they do Talia, too. It would be a good way to avoid redoing Catwoman for the second movie.

That would explain that thing Katie Holmes does with her lips when she smiles.

Whenever Cillian Murphy was on screen I kept thinking "Damn, Scarecrow's obviously psychotic but he has the most gorgeous blue eyes I've ever seen."

Katie Holmes surprisingly didn't annoy me either, though she's annoyed me in just about every other movie I've seen of hers. Don't really know why.

Oh, yes. I couldn't take my eyes off his lovely lips all that often, but his eyes really are gorgeous.

And she wasn't bad at all in Wonder Boys, but then again, nobody was bad in Wonder Boys. Now, there's a movie that seriously doesn't get enough mention.

Of course he didn't. Batman isn't a detective. Yet. ;)
