A meme gacked from a couple of people:

Ask me my opinion on any character from any fandom, and I will say. If I do not know the fandom, I will say what I think I know based on fannish osmosis.

Fair warning, though ... I neither watch nor know from fannish osmosis nearly all of the anime fandoms, with the exception of Ed from Fullmetal Alchemist, and the only things I know I learned from [livejournal.com profile] catystorm during the costume parties -- he's short, he's loud, and I think I love him. ;)

Also, I ordered Pop Nots today. Like, a case of them. Hmph. That should last me a week.

EDIT: Unless I missed it, I don't think I've seen anybody link to the Aeon Flux trailer. Aside from the dark hair on Charlize throwing me off (dude, it looks awful on her, even if it is correct), it looks like it could be awesome. And I want exploding marbles! *bounces up and down happily*

I do have to admit that my viewing habits later in the show were spotty, but he was seriously yummy. And I'm not just talking about the fact that Christian Kane is sex on a stick. I mean, he's sneaky, smart, hot, and at the same time as he's this lawyer, he's also got a pickup truck and can play guitar. I'm talking about that intellectual kind of yummy where you knew a good story was coming when he showed up. Oh, yes. *loves on Lindsey just a little bit ... or, you know, a lot*

Ooo. Okay, see, here's the thing with River -- when she's being cool (closing her eyes and shooting three guys in the head, being all psychic, dancing, fixing Book's Bible), I adore her. She's brainy and graceful and just plain spooky in a good way. But when she's doing stuff that endangers the others, it pisses me off -- not that she does it, but that I keep thinking of if she were doing it to me, and that's when she gets scary and threatening to me.

I mean, I get what Simon said that one time, about how she loves Serenity, and I don't doubt for a minute that she loves everyone on it (even Jayne in a perverse way ... I think she gets a sick little thrill out of scaring the pants off of this big snapping mercenary type). But at the same time, she's one of the characters I like watching and wouldn't be able to stand being anywhere near in a real-life situation.

Rogue (X-men, whatever canon)

Date: 2005-08-18 02:52 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] apocalypsos.livejournal.com
Using Rogue in the movieverse (since that's the one I'm most used to at this point), I think ... well, to be honest, Rogue in the movieverse bugs me. I mean, I like her -- I like Rogue in every 'verse I've seen her in, just because her powers are just so intriguing and whatever they do about the whole Miss Marvel thing in whichever fandom I'm watching is always interesting.

The whole thing with movieverse Rogue is that I want her to get rid of the whole scared little girl bit which, okay, is understandable considering what she's been through. But at the same time, I'm used to (from every other 'verse) loud and brash Rogue, the Rogue that comes out and says what she thinks and doesn't run from a fight. And you can tell they're working up to it in X2, with flying the jet and joining the team at the end and everything, but at the same time, goddamn it, I want some fight in my girl. When I posted the link to that article that said Anna Paquin needed more exposure (among others) and a couple of people said she did the petulant thing a lot, I might not like to admit it, but it's true. She does this thing in the movies where she's this shy little Southern flower who needs protecting, and just ... *sigh* NO. I think that was half of the reason I had her absorb Logan in Something Biblical -- because giving her more of a backbone in the movieverse at the point where X2 ended required drastic measures.

Okay, Josh ... I only watched the first couple of seasons, but I think I liked Josh a lot because he seemed like the kind of guy I'd hang out with. He can be a terrible winner if you're up against him, but Jesus, can he be cute when he's doing it. I also have pretty much shipped him and Donna every damn time I've watched the show, so ... yeah. Oh, Pop Nots are AWESOME. I used to eat the butter-flavored ones all the damn time. And then the Wegmans that sold them (which, by the way, was the only place I could get them) stopped selling them, and I think I stood in that aisle for about twenty minutes looking for them like, "Well, maybe they're hiding behind these pretzels ... or these Cheetos ... or in the frozen foods section ... *whimper*" I can't wait to get my box of Pop Nots. The craving, it is killing me. :)

Oh, God, Wesley. *hangs head* Okay, how bad is it that I recognized him as a Mary Sue back then and I didn't even know what a Mary Sue was? I adored Wil Wheaton, partly because even back then he was still Wil Wheaton in his infinite coolness and partly because he reminded me of my on-and-off boyfriend. But Wesley killed me. Half the time, I wasn't sure whether I loved him or whether I'd rather just keep pressing buttons on the remote until one of them switched the studio's cameras over to a different set on the ship so I could watch Marina Sirtis and Jonathan Frakes drink coffee and wait for their lines to come up.

My character, then: Gambit from the X-Men, any incarnation (preferably a non-sucky one).

Date: 2005-08-18 03:06 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] apocalypsos.livejournal.com
Hmm, what I remember of Gambit from buying comics in high school ... well, he was second on the list of X-Men I wanted to fuck. (The first was Bobby, but my Bobby fixation goes waaaaaaaay back. Bobby was like fuckable best friend territory. And third was comicverse Logan. I ... I blame my Pixie Stix intake. *shifty eyes*)

As for Gambit, he was such eye candy (you know, for a comic book character), but a lot of that was tempered by the fact that he was "up to a point." You could trust him ... up to a point. You could date him successfully ... up to a point. You get the idea. The Gambit of my teenage years in the comic shop was all about the sex, but my God, would you not want to work with, or date him, or just generally hang out with him if you wanted everything you owned exactly where you left it.

The greatest part is that I watched FMA with my roommates every weekend, and EVERY time they'd say "So-and-so is annoying," and I'd say, "Yeah, but I like So-and-so anyway because blah blah blah," So-and-so would be dead by the end of the episode. And then I started saying I hated all the characters, and it stopped for a while, and then two of my top four non-Elric characters died because the universe caught on. Stupid universe.

*and totally loves that one, too* *wants FMA icons now*

How about Sawyer on Lost

Date: 2005-08-18 03:13 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] apocalypsos.livejournal.com
Okay. Sawyer ... you know who Sawyer reminds me a lot of? Jack Sparrow at the end of PotC. You know, when they say that Jack is a pirate and Will says, "But a good man." That's my take on Sawyer -- he's really kind of an asshole, but he's a good man.

Ignoring the gorgeous body (if we even can ... *swoon*), what intrigues me about the guy is that you can tell he wants to make up for his crimes, for the cons and the murder and everything. And there is a part of him that is trying so goddamn hard and it's just failing miserably. I took it as a good sign at the end of the season that Aaron took to him like he did while wailing his head off when Charlie was holding him -- the kid's got decent judgement for a newborn, because Sawyer ended the season injured while trying to save Walt, while Charlie ended it with heroin in his knapsack. He fascinates the hell of me that here's this guy who could be a hero, and wants to on some level, but can't get past the ingrained bad behavior he's gotten used to.

Heh. I think I watched the first few episodes of the first season up until about when James Marsters showed up, then stopped watching until a few months ago when it turned up on WGN on Saturdays. And I think one of my first reactions was, "Didn't Trance used to be purple?" (Thank God for Wikipedia. ;))

I can remember way back when that I liked Trance, because she was cute, energetic, and had mysterious powers, which usually hooks me on characters straight away. Then I went away for a while and came back, and now I mostly just think she has gorgeous hair.

I guess it's kind of a no-brainer, but Captain Jack of the Innuendo Squad from Doctor Who

*giggles* Okay, I can do that..

Oh, God, do I love Captain Jack. I do, I really do. I mean, he's intelligent, he's sneaky, he's brave, he's sexy, but most of all he's just so loyal to Rose and the Doctor by the end it's awesome. And it's not even just the relationship that the three of them have, it's Jack's opinion of everybody else. The Doctor makes that crack about Jack "dancing" with everybody and everyone, regardless of sex, species, or planet of origin, but something about Jack makes it obvious that every time he hits on someone, it's not so much a line as is him being genuinely honest. I can believe that he finds something attractive about every single person he runs into. He's just got that kind of attitude, and I adore it. :)

We talk about the 4400 sometimes, and I read your commentaries. But seriously -- what are your thoughts right now on Isabelle?

Date: 2005-08-18 03:46 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] apocalypsos.livejournal.com
Well, Isabelle is a cute baby, and I love watching her fuck with people. After that, it gets a little complicated.

I don't hate the character at all, but I dislike her in the way I'm supposed to, I guess. She makes me uneasy. She's unpredictable, we still don't know if she's there to cause good or bad things to happen (so far, bad is leading by a large margin), and the way she toys with the people around her is creepy. Look at her parents. First she's talking to Lily and making Richard feel bad, then she stops talking to Lily (from the sound of it, right about the time Heidi visited) and starts talking to Richard. She doesn't talk to both of them, only one at a time. If she's so powerful, why couldn't she talk to them both at once? It puts a wedge between them, and I think she's doing it on purpose.

And look at what else she's done. She sent poor Heidi to surgery. She "lied" to Jordan, and even hurt him while she was in utero so badly he was still being healed by Shawn a year later. Let's not forget the fact that she caused three crazed gunmen to kill themselves, one by shooting himself in the head. She's an infant and she did that. If she's got that much power and she's doing that, cute chubby cheeks and pretty brown eyes or not, she's going to be a seriously dangerous individual when she grows up. The scary thing is that at this point, it's hard to decide whether to root for her or not.

I was gonna pass on this one, but after seeing your answer to Sawyer...what's your opinion on Charlie of Lost? What arc of cruelty are they gonna send him through next season?

Date: 2005-08-18 12:20 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] apocalypsos.livejournal.com
Oh, poor Charlie. I mean, I love him and he means well (which is the same thing I say about my more bothersome relatives), and when they sort the Lost cast and he gets into Gryffindor, I get it. He wants to be brave. He's kind of like Neville from the first book. He's not a bad guy, and when put in a difficult situation and with the right motivation (Claire and Aaron, first and foremost), he'll step up.

But the drugs are what's ruining him. I mean, I'm hoping he'll get that. I'm hoping that by the end of next season, Claire will figure it out and smack upside the head and go, "You dumbass, knock it off." And then they'll go into the woods, find the airplane wreckage and have a great big bonfire. (And God willing, not stand downwind.) Of course, that'll require Claire to get a little more fucking backbone this season, but let's not even get into that.

The thing is, until then, I can just see the story arc coming. He loves Claire and Aaron, but at the moment his addiction means more. He can't help it, and knowing he's got a good heart somewhere under there means he doesn't want it to be the case. But just like Sawyer the asshole is hiding a hero, Charlie the loyal friend is hiding a very weak person. (And the only reason I say he'd hiding a weak person instead of the weakness we know he's shown the others is that he has come in useful unlike, say, Boone. If only for shooting Ethan -- which, really, the others shouldn't have had to think twice about -- but also for being there for Claire, who needs that.)

Rose (Doctor Who).

Date: 2005-08-18 12:31 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] apocalypsos.livejournal.com
You know why I think I like Rose so much? Because I identify with her. Crappy job, living in an apartment, wanting to have an adventure ... that's me. And I love the fact that you can tell the Doctor's favorite thing in the universe right now is just watching Rose's reaction to every new experience. He adores that dazed, wondrous look in her eyes, and I think that's why it's so goddamn easy to see Doctor/Rose like it is. (Oh, please let Ten carry that over ...)

Of course, with Rose, the problem is exactly what she pointed out in "Parting of the Ways" -- how can you expect her to go back home after this? She doesn't seem like the type who'd be able to do it, quite honestly. I can't see her giving up the experience of the Doctor and the TARDIS that easily ... I mean, look what she did just to get the vortex open, and she upset the hell out of her mother and Mickey to do it. She wanted adventure, and now she has it, and now regardless of the dangers, I can't see her giving it up for anything less than something drastic.

Oh, Wallace. *swoons* That poor boy needs more love. I mean, of the girlfriend variety so I live vicariously through her. ;)

Honestly, Wallace is the best best-friend characters on television right now, and one of the best ever. He is just always there for Veronica, whether it's for homework or to retrieve a lost dog or to listen to her unburden her soul about the rape. The thing that makes me so friggin' happy about that relationship is that it's not one of those TV relationships where she takes advantage of his friendship and he says nothing. She gave Logan that tardy slip, and Wallace called her on it in the next episode. She made that crack about Keith moving along from Alicia when her mom came back and Wallace had a much-deserved fit about it. He's good for her that way. She needs someone like Wallace to be her voice of reason.

And she put cookies in his locker! (Sorry, that was probably my favorite part of their relationship all season. Snickerdoodles! YAY! *snerk*)
