Aug. 29th, 2005 08:36 amBecause heck, I've already watched the last fifteen minutes of the finale twice over this morning. So here's what I've been thinking:
Jordan: Okay, here's what gets me about Jordan reappearing. He just sort of vanished, and it was pretty safe to assume that when he did so, his body was either stolen (the less likely option), he came to under his own power and left (somewhat likely, considering), or the Powers That Will Be took him (the most likely scenario).
It's possible that the Powers That Will Be took him, since he is still wearing the same suit he was supposed to be buried in and he suddenly appeared on Highland Beach with a dazed look on his face as if he had no idea how the hell he'd gotten there. But what's throwing me off is his hair and beard and the state of his clothes -- if the Powers That Will Be can keep people in the same condition for long enough to pump them full of promycin and, in Lily's case, impregnate them, then what the hell happened to Jordan? I can't decide whether I think they did take him to revive him or they didn't and he's been wandering the woods for month in a daze or something.
Kevin: Okay, experimenting on yourself is kind of a mad scientist staple. (What? Kevin is a mad scientist. I think if you called him a mad scientist, he'd be horribly amused. He certainly mentions the hospital enough.) But I'm still a little worried for him pumping himself full of promycin like that. I mean, yes, he now has access to it. Yes, it was safe to put it into the 4400. But they already had promycin in them, and I'm edgy about what it'll do to Kevin. I have hope that he won't have some sort of allergic reaction or something and die (NOOOOOOOOOOOOO), but at the same time, it brings up a stark new reality.
Before they had no idea how the 4400 abilities came into being. Now they do -- promycin. And if it works for Kevin, it proves that a simple injection can give you those abilities. Of course, the next step becomes a case of who gets the injections? If it's a matter for the authorities to decide, then it could get tense. You can't just give it to anybody, but if you give it to no one, people will have fits. What if you just give it to soldiers? To doctors? Would you willingly give it to criminals? Does promycin become valuable on the black market?
And the thing is that right now, Kevin is one who's probably the best person to deal with the situation -- he's the father of the 4400, and it's probably because he'll be the one to know exactly what promycin does and (hopefully in the end) where it comes from. And that's a good question, too. Where the hell does it come from?
Also, think about this -- if there is a war coming, and Kevin has shown himself to be on the side of the 4400, then they have someone capable of synthesizing promycin. And if you think about it, promycin is a weapon of sorts in their war. Yes, at this moment, there are now only 4400 people on their side. But it's like that old commercial -- if they each turn one person, and they each turn one person, and they each turn one person, etc. Not to mention the fact that Kevin could only get one dose from Isabelle because she was a baby ... I imagine he could get at least three or four doses from an adult if given the opportunity, and it wouldn't take all that long for them to inject more than a million people like that. They can make their own army.
Kyle: The only reason I'm worried about Kyle right now is that Jordan may not just wander back into civilization right away. I think he will, but when he does, they may not let Kyle out of jail for the simple reason that it's still attempted murder and as somebody else on my friends list put it, "Your Honor, a great big ball of futuristic light in my throat made me shoot him, but my cousin healed me and I'm all better now" isn't going to cut it.
I do have a feeling that next season, we're going to see Tom and Diana choose a side in this war, and understandably it's going to be to stand with the 4400. Hell, they've already done that. (And Marco will go with them. MARCOOOOOOOOOO! Ahem. :)) And while I'm not sure they'd take the promycin (although I'm not sure Marco could turn down the injection if he were offered it ... he's curious like that), I do think it's possible they'd say yes.
Isabelle: Oh, my God, who is Lily going to annoyingly obsess over now? *snerk*
Okay, that was a cheap shot, but her behavior in regards to protecting Isabelle was one of the very, very few things bugging me in the last few episodes, so forgive me if I can't wait to see the look on her face when she sees New and Nakedly Improved Isabelle. (I doubt it'll look like the expression on Shawn's face, which was, "WHOA! WTF?! NAKED GIRL!") I also can't wait to see what Lily can do now that her promycin inhibitor's gone away, but that's not what I'm here for. :)
Anyway, Isabelle. This is the thing that gets me, that I'm pretty sure now that I think about this that her suddenly growing up wasn't a fluke. I don't know what it means for babies who are born in the future -- the scariest growth spurts ever, I imagine -- but she's always seemed to have the mind of an adult anyway, hasn't she? I mean, shooting guys in the head, "talking" to her parents and making Lily have those creepy-as-fuck visions in that last episode aren't exactly childish behavior. They indicate some sort of intelligence higher than that of an infant, even when she still was one. In fact, the only truly childish behavior I can think of from her was rupturing Heidi's spleen, but we're not even sure there wasn't a really good reason for her to do that, either.
One thing that creeps me out right now about Isabelle is that her immediate reaction to growing up was to walk up to Shawn naked and introduce herself. I mean, we're not even sure she's good or evil yet (although since lately the Powers That Will Be have been looking like they lean more towards the good, I'm leaning towards the good even with her creepy-as-fuck vibes), but we do know that so far, Shawn's been treated like some sort of messiah. He's a good guy with incredibly helpful powers (And how great was that last night, his saving all of those people? I think he finally saw what he could do in quarantine.), but at the same time, the thing with Isabelle seems a little reminiscent of what happened with Tom and Alana. The Powers That Will Be wanted Tom to have someone to stand by him during a time of great trouble -- what if they did the same thing for Shawn with Isabelle? It's a terrifying thought, but could you imagine those two together? She's powerful and apparently gorgeous, he's kind and handsome, he's in a leadership position ... hell, forget the implications of what they could do. Could you imagine if they had kids?
Damn, now I have an annoying temptation to write Shawn/Isabelle. Yes, that kind of Shawn/Isabelle. I also had a really creepy thought last night about how Jordan will react to a grown-up Isabelle, but let's not get into that for fear of my eyeballs exploding.
See, now this is the kind of finale I can work with. *rubs hands together in anticipation of writing fanfic like mad to make up for there being no new episodes for a whole friggin' year*
In other news, go here to help a really worthy cause.

Date: 2005-08-29 01:57 pm (UTC)And rightfully so.
I felt kind of bad for Lily losing it when Izzy wasn't in her little crib, but c'mon, girl. You couldn't even leave your mother a note going
"I'm twenty five and hot now, so I'm gonna go sex up that equally hot healer man. Thanks for taking care of me for nine months. Sorry about the freaky visions but you were being a hysterical git.
Love,
Isabelle"
--that's harsh.

Date: 2005-08-29 02:25 pm (UTC)Jordan - you've brought up some excellent points. If TPTB had him, why is he aged when they had abducted and returned people before without aging them. Also? I fear for Isabelle's, ahem, innocence. He was a very randy guy and I doubt that pseudo-death has changed that.
Kyle - he still killed two government agents, so even if Jordan shows up, he's going to prison.
Kevin - the discovery of this neurotransmitter is going to be revolutionary. I can't imagine how difficult it will be to regulate it and its effects.
Isabelle - all I have to say is: WTF?
MARCOOOOOOOO!
This war thing is going to be wicked next season.

Date: 2005-08-29 02:34 pm (UTC)Hee. You know what I noticed this morning that I hadn't last night? After Diana kissed him and he said, "Whoa," her eyebrows lifted as she was walking away as if to say, "Daaaamn, that was really good."
I think I've watched that scene about a dozen times by now. I'm obsessed like that. :)
And with Kyle, I almost forgot about the government agents. But at the same time, I seriously wonder if the Powers That Will Be would want him in jail. I don't think he's going to stay in there at all, and I'm not sure if it's because they'll accept that it wasn't him doing it or Jordan will pull some strings or he'll escape. I'm sincerely convinced that he won't stay in jail next season, though. Don't ask me why.

There are so many different ways this can go now, with varying alliances, especially with Jordan back, and a grown up Isabelle (That's not gonna go well...) and with Shawn, and Kyle, and and...gyah!
Too much to ponder...
