[personal profile] apocalypsos
And now, in my fucking-with-maps series of images to go with "Pennsylvania is not just Philly and Pittsburgh, people", I bring to you my response to anyone who in the past week has had the nerve to utter any variation of the phrase, "Well, if you live in an area plagued by hurricanes, you're asking for this to happen to you."

Image hosted by TinyPic.com

In other words ... nobody should be living in this country, at this rate. Sheesh.

And before anybody jumps down my throat for the Mormons crack, that was mostly just to fill up space. What I should have put for my own amusement was "dead from dysentery."

EDIT: Now edited to include the possibility of global thermonuclear war, like all good maps should.

NEW EDIT: Fixed the map problem. GRRR to Photobucket. *shakes fist at them*

Not only is North Dakota/Minnesota in the tornado area, you also get the blizzards and the pleasure of living on a flood-plain. Let's not forget the flood of 97 and downtown Fargo burning.

Shit happens everywhere.

Hopped on over from [livejournal.com profile] metaquotes.

I have to second the tsunami thing. Everywhere you go near the Oregon beaches, there are these bright blue tsumani escape route signs. It was funny until last Christmas.

More generally, I'm in Seattle, and wow. We've really got it all. First of all, the city is conveniently situated on right top of our own personalized and specially-made tectonic plate! Meaning we get lots of earthquakes. Which cause tsunamis. And the occasional devastating volcanic eruption. For which Mt. Rainier (happily close enough to not only asphyxiate the entire area with ash but also destroy suburbs with lava and mud flows) is about 600 years overdue. And every fall we get huge wind storms and trees fly around and houses fall down and people die. Also we have really bad flooding because of the rain every year. The number of people that off themselves because of the 100+ straight days of rain every winter is another thing entirely. As are our vast numbers of those touting the Book of Mormon. There's a huge temple right up the road from my high school.

On the other hand, we have large amounts of caffine, a flannel-laden musical history, beautiful forests, and... um, the dubious honor of hosting not only Microsoft but also several really crappy sports teams?

I should move. But where?

Here from a link from someone else's journal, and I just wanted to say that this cracked me up -- I needed it, after the scores of depressing posts and articles I've seen today.

(Your PA map also cracked me up. I grew up about 45 min. east of Pittsburgh, have been in central PA for the past 4 years for college, and have been in Philly for a total of maybe 30 minutes while waiting to transfer to a train to Baltomore -- and that was probably 30 minutes too much for me! People seem to forget about the rest of this poor little state sometimes.)
