Because after last night's Lost premiere, I needed an icon that pointed out every bad, annoying trait I share with Shannon. *snerk*

In any event, My reactions:

-- Jack killed Shannon's dad! Well, he didn't do anything to save him in any event. (That may have been the only point in the episode I didn't like Jack, though. This one really did a number on the things that annoy me most about Jack. Of course, the biggest problem -- that he's the hero and I always dislike the "hero" -- isn't going to change anytime soon.)

-- Did I mention that Hurley is my hero? Because, seriously, big man love right here. *would give Jorge a huge hug if he were here*

-- Also, Desmond is a creepy little fuck, but I like him so far. I mean, somebody had to be down there to turn on the light, right? ;)

-- I don't think it's a good sign that even though Walt never made it into the water, Shannon saw him soaking wet and spitting out water.

-- That song, whatever it was, was stuck in my head all night long. Thanks, Lost people, you evil bastards. ;P

-- I don't know about the rest of you, but I loved the entire episode and thought it did a lot to make up for that season finale last year. I'm still not perfectly happy with last season's end, but still.

-- I can't help but love an episode that ends with Kate missing. YAY!

-- Well, the episode didn't open with Charlie pouring the heroin into a syringe with a maniacal giggle, so that's nice.

-- Locke and Hurley had all the best lines this episode. Mmm-hmm.

Now, let's keep in mind that I've had no time to read anybody else's reactions, but ... yeah. Good episode.

Also watched Invasion. Not bad, and terribly creepy. At the same time, if that little girl got any more adorable, she would have imploded and turned into a pile of My Little Ponies.

We didn't really see anything of Charlie, other than him scolding Shannon. Mrph. Perhaps it is because Dom's getting ready for maternity leave?

So basically...you're Shannon, but with red hair?

Marry me? ;)

A great start to the season. Almost would've been a better ender than looking down the hatch did, for many people. Although, the show has so many juicy cliffhangers, there's a lotta episodes that applies to. Shame that the one that fell down was the finale.

My favorite moment? When Charlie asked, "Where is Dr Arzt?" and my 12-year-old son turned to me and said, "Oh, he's right here, on my shirt!"

I was helpless for five minutes after that.

My first thought was, "Where isn't Dr. Artz?"

Well, they called him Mr. Rutherford in the ER, and since the only other Rutherford we've heard of besides Shannon was her dead father ...

(It goes to show how obsessed I am with Shannon as a character that as soon as I heard the name Rutherford, I perked up like a puppy. :))

What does GIP mean? Because I keep thinking "funny colors" after I see it, and I know it can't mean 'Gee I Pee.'

Huh, so that's what it means?

I always thought it meant "Good Icon Pic."

(I'm catching up on your recaps, having now caught up on the first two eps of Lost.)

I didn't like it. I had no issue with the season finale at all-that's what shows do to ensure you watch the next season, create an infuriating cliffhanger that keeps you guessing all summer.

But I thought this episode was WAY too flashback heavy. We already know the story of Jack and Sarah (or whatever wifey's name is)-more island, less Jack with bad hair, would have been preferable.

That, and if this show turns into Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon Desmond, I'm out. Lost totally elevated the genre in the sense that the characters and the themes go above and beyond the gimmick of the "what brought us all here?" Too many coincidences and mumbo jumbo are going to ruin that.

Unless the island is manufacturing Desmond from Jack's memory. Just as Ethan may have been manufactured...

Yeah, that's another avenue I don't want to see them go down, really.

Granted, if something on the island is making people hallucinate (maybe that's what the quarantine is for-keeping whatever's on the island out of the hatch), I would say Locke is in on it somehow, given the whole Boone Vision Quest Thing.

I already think it's a little too coincidental about both Jack's fiancee and Locke thinking they'd never walk again and being able to do so.

Here's my ideal scenario (granted, it's full of holes). The island is an underground research facility for unethical human subject research experiments. The government knows the plane is there, but revealing the location of the plane jeopardizes the facility, so they cover it up. The "Others" (perhaps unaware of the extent of the cover up) want off the island, so they figure kidnapping a child and holding it hostage might be the best barganing chip. Perhaps unaware of Walt, they take Claire as a first choice. She escapes (perhaps aided by Rosseau, who's child was the first bait-but died in the kidnapping attempt), and when they realize they have Walt (who himself might be a research subject gone wrong or more of an asset to a paramilitary operation), they take him. And now he's beaming out to Shannon to get help. Etc.

Like I said, holes. But that's the extent of the paranormal I want on this show, ideally.

Wow. I suspect you're going to be disappointed. Because it's a *lot* more paranormal than that. The convergences that have taken place to get them all here, the clear display of Walt's telepathic/telekinetic abilities (notice they never showed him setting a match to the boat...), the security system. I almost *don't* want an explanation for everything because bringing it down to earth would cheapen the experience.

Thanks for speculating with me! That's the best part of this show.

From: [identity profile] phillyexpat.livejournal.com
Ugh. I was afraid of that. I can deal with Walt's abilities if there's a scientific explanation for them (or if it's like Carrie), but if this show gets any more fantasy elements, I may find it difficult to enjoy.

I don't think Walt has any magic powers. Except for broadcasting to Shannon, all the magic happened when Locke was -there-. Locke is the whackjob.

Do you recall the scene with his mom and stepdad where he got angry and the bird flew into the window? I got the distinct impression his "abilities" were the reason his stepdad didn't want to keep him (aside from him just being a huge jackass). And I can't really see that kid taking a match to his dad's raft, no matter how bad he wanted to leave. (Again, my two cents. YMMV.)

Was Locke there when Jack saw his dad on the beach and later in the jungle?

I can't recall all the specifics, because I've only seen Season 1 once (makes me want to go back and see it again!) but I have the impression that the island is drawing folks away, manipulating them for its own purposes. Just my two cents.

I'm with ya on one point. Locke is out there.

I want so badly to like Invasion, because it has my longtime movie/TV boyfriend, William Fichtner.

Alas, the pacing was so slow that I actually nodded off. I rewatched the tape again today, and did enjoy it, except for said pacing.

I kind of find it hard to fault Jack for performing triage. He had two patients who needed his help and he picked one.

Of course, Shannon isn't going to be as charitable, I think, especially since not only was the woman Jack saved responsible for her father being there in the first place but Jack later married said woman.

Date: 2005-09-22 05:33 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] phillyexpat.livejournal.com
Shannon's never going to make the connection is my guess. Jack may not remember the patient's name or have even realized the ramifications of his actions, and Shannon probably would have no knowledge that Jack put the other woman before Rutherford.

I did find the lack of doctors and the nurses' seeming lack of ability to step in slightly unrealistic, but that might be too much ER talking.

i was actually hoping for this, so. disappointed a little.

why did it annoy you that jack chose to save sarah over the suv driver? didn't one of the medical staff say something about suv guy being worse off?

It wasn't so much that I didn't like Jack, I guess, as much as I immediately realized it was Shannon's father and got all defensive on her behalf. Which is stupid, but at least I admit it. :)
