Wait, let me guess. There's a betting pool about how long it'll take to make every single female character not remotely appealing or identifiable, and any redemptive qualities Shannon might take on might actually make her likable, so they have to get rid of her. Is that it?

No, I know! Claire had no storyline, so let's just make her kill someone, because that will be OH SO SHOCKING, and since we've used up all of the OH SO SHOCKING on Claire and can't use it to have her murder Kate, and considering Shannon's lack of allowed developed maturity since Boone's death, Shannon would be the least likely to be missed. Right? Am I right?

So, so much for me liking any of the female characters on the show, I guess. I mean, who are they going to kill off or make me hate next? *seethes*

There's been a lot of spoilers about who kills Shannon, and ficangel did a pretty good argument of narrowing it down to her. The Claire part is more of a deductive spoiler, but the Shannon one is supposedly solid, and it fits all of the previous spoilers about the murderer.

Shannon's death seems pointless considering she's supposed the be shagging Sayid and dealing with her lover-brother's death. Killer her does what? Nothing. It's just part of A Big Shocking Moment. Claire as a killer? CLAIRE? Stupid idea. It's all about being Shocking and nothing to do with telling an actual story or being a good TV show.

Which is why I don't watch Alias anymore; it's also part of why I don't like Joss Whedon - he was far too fond of being Shocking for the sake of being over-dramatic and didn't give a shit that characters were runied in the process.

Amen. You can't make a big deal of putting a character in a situation where she has to grow up and learn to take care of herself and then kill her before she can, for crying out loud. Shannon's level of maturity at death should not be, "So now I know how to take care of a puppy."

Thank you so much for articulating this, because I love my show, but the gender issues on it are fucked. Like Shannon's crime is only a small fraction of what Kate's have been even after the Big One, but Shannon does not make the proper doe eyes and simper the right words. Bite me, writers. Bite me hard and give me back my girl.

It's not even about Shannon anymore, but is growing to infect how I view every other female on the show, too. Kate-hate? Multiplied by a factor of ten today. Even my reluctant affection for Ana Lucia is being tarnished by looking back and going, "Oh, they're trying to smash Shannon and Kate into one person SO FANDOM DOESN'T RISE UP AND KILL THEM."

Because I've also read some stuff about them getting more into Shannon's past this season and possibly bringing Ian back for the flashbacks... so... if her death would be further into the season, that wouldn't be a conflict, but if it's supposed to happen an episode or two from now... well what I read is probably still wrong but...
