Dec. 13th, 2005 04:50 amSo it's the middle of the night, and I have nothing to do, which is not entirely true, but my brain's not working enough to work on my fanfic or the Books of Boggs and I'm not buzzed enough yet to recap the Poseidon Adventure remake, although that's next on my list of things to do.
In any event, tonight is the season finale of TAR. I'm probably going to watch, although I'm going to the midnight showing of King Kong and I'll pretty much have to run right out the front door as soon as it's over. If the Weavers win, I may run straight out the front door and directly into the street. GYAH. *shudders* See, I should not feel punished for watching my favorite reality show, damn it. I liked it so much better when a.) I knew everybody's names, b.) watching one of the teams didn't make me physically ill, and c.) it played more like a cross between a travel show and a drunken scavenger hunt. *sigh*
Meanwhile, on shows I still like, Project Runway. Okay, so here's what I'm thinking.
Santino -- Here's the thing with Santino. I totally get the people who hate him, because honestly, he is an arrogant asshole. But I still like him so far, because he's entertaining me and I think if his talent remains consistent for the rest of the series, he's a lock for Fashion Week. His first dress is something I would definitely wear in public (I loved the color especially) and the one he made out of his own outfit was stunning. Of course, my attitude about liking to watch him could easily change because ... seriously, dumbass, know when to shut up occasionally.
Emmett -- I like Emmett so freaking much. I would so wear both of his dresses so far, I love his personal sense of style, and I respect him a lot for the fact that he's taking the time to think about his design before he makes it. (Remember last season, when I think it was Jay who said Austin would do that thing where he'd be figuring out what to do for a while, and then it was like, "*POOF* Dress!"? This is like that.) I like that he's not trying to be a personality, that he's just there to get the work done, and that his designs are really pulling me in.
Nick -- *snickers* I like Nick. Another one where I love his personal sense of style, and right now, he's the one who's amusing me the most. And that second dress looked amazing on that model.
Daniel Franco -- You know what I appreciate about Daniel? I think he did the one thing we all hope and wish and pray when we see people acting like idiots on reality TV -- went home, watched himself on TV, and said, "Oh, man! I'm acting like an idiot!" He realizes the mistakes he made last season, and he's trying to correct his behavior accordingly. And because of the fact that he got bumped first last year, he's very appreciative to be there and happy for any praise he can get. Plus, he's acting like such a puppy this year. And that second dress that he made out of his own outfit was lovely and is so far one of my favorite dresses on there this season. Very elegant and tailored and totally something I'd wear. (Granted, you can't pull off the tailored thing all the time with time constraints like this, but still. If he by some miracle made it to Fashion Week this season, I'd be dying to see what he could come up with.)
Daniel V -- See, so far, he hasn't made that much of an impression on me. So far, his designs aren't bad at all, but they haven't struck me yet, and he himself is just kinda ... there.
Diana -- I like Diana in a very "I'm attacking the darkness!" kind of way. She is such a dork, but at least she's a cute dork. And when she's sitting there for interviews saying stuff like, "Well, I don't read Vogue, I just read science magazines," in that tiny little voice, I just want to sweep her up and cuddle her and take her off for a haircut and manicure. She's like that lovable little friend you have that you just want to drag out to a mall and completely replace her wardrobe as a Christmas present. As for her designs, I really do think she needs to lose her dependence on the whole science/fashion thing, because when she's not trying to stick in magnets and rocket launchers and boat engines, they're actually kind of cute. That second dress especially was nice with the swishy skirt, although I would have lost the hat.
Chloe -- Heh. I kinda felt sorry for her during that second challenge, because when she made that crack about not having enough fabric to work with, I kept thinking of Emmett and his clothes-that-fit-a-six-six-guy with the massive amounts of fabric. But she did an amazing job on that second dress. Plus, she seems cool, and she's pocket-sized to boot! :)
Guadalupe -- Oh, Lupe, shut up. I mean, her designs are quirky and weird and I like looking at them (although wearing them? Yeah, that wouldn't happen), but no one in that room should be giving anyone else unwanted advice, and if anyone were going to do it, I'd let Nick the fashion teacher do it first.
Kara -- Why do I have a feeling Kara's going to end up being the Vanessa? She's so far made the most of an impression on me by behaving like a spazz, and I'm not sure I like her designs yet. I have moments where I like that Oliver Twist thing, and then moments where I wonder what the hell is wrong with me.
Marla -- I feel like I should root for Marla because she's from Pennsylvania, but at the same time, that bib thing from the second challenge? Bleh. (Then again, her model looks painfully skinny even for a model. I mean, Jesus, you should not have to factor the razor-sharp jaggedness of a set of hipbones into your design.) She herself seems really nice, though.
Raymundo -- Raymundo is like my little gay puppy. I spend so much time when I'm contemplating this show wanting to give him a great big hug. :) As for his designs, they're not my style, but I really do think he's doing a good job so far.
Andrae -- I still think he's got crazy eyes. And that outburst on the runway? Again, shut UP, Andrae. Way to make Zulema seem sane. As for his designs, his first dress was totally something I'd buy and wear all the time, but that second one? Bah. (I got a total kick out of Emmett having to help him sew the model into it, because if I'm remembering correctly, Andrae was one of the ones badgering him to "sew already!" Heh.)
Zulema -- Oh, I can't wait for her to get kicked off at this point. She nearly sucked me in on the first episode because her first dress was very nice, and then she made that sweater monstrosity. I think it goes to show something when the two designers who made the worst outfits for the "clothes off your back" challenge were the two who refused to incorporate their entire outfits. I mean, Christ, Zulema, if me and my lack of any real fashion training could make a skirt out of a pair of jeans, so can you. (Although my first reaction to making another outfit out of that one would have been the sweater as a skirt and the jeans into a top, but what the hell do I know, right?) And I agree with the poster I saw on the TWoP forums ... blaming the size -0 model for "having too much booty" for your design is ridiculous, because if she has too much, than everybody does.
Don't mind me. It's either ramble about this or whine about being awake this early some more. :)
Okay, how sad is it that the only Christmas movies I own are Trading Places, The Ref, and the MST3K version of Santa Claus Conquers the Martians?

Date: 2005-12-13 03:51 pm (UTC)Lupe rubs me the wrong way. Sure, she has talent, but every one of her dresses look like Helen Slater's designer dresses from Ruthless People. Thanks, but no thanks.

Date: 2005-12-13 04:02 pm (UTC)The problem with Lupe's dresses is that they're fun to look at, but I doubt in a million years I could find anyone who'd willingly wear them. Not that her model's helping, either, because that girl has some serious sulk face going on.
I feel sorry for Andrae's model, who's very cute and seems sweet and yet is stuck with him. And I really like Chloe's model for some reason.
Oh, and you know what else I'm horribly tempted to do? Take a pair of baggy jeans and turn them into a little jacket like Emmett did on that last design. The more I look at that picture, the more I think I could pull that off.

Date: 2005-12-13 06:25 pm (UTC)And I HATE Santino. When he made that comment that the only reason he didn't win was because he won last time in front of Chloe, it just made me so mad. And he's just.. so gross. "I would give up any material possession if it got me more." What a creep. Ugh. He does know what he's doing, though. He's very good.
Also, I think Chloe's model is too skinny. I was amazed when she chose her again. She made her first dress look like the cups were too big when they were about as small as they could go. And her ribcage was showing... it freaked me out.

Date: 2005-12-13 06:35 pm (UTC)And Chloe's model is definitely too skinny (I mean, you've got to be when you're making me look busty), but just looking at Marla's model makes me want to call my mother and thank her for bequeathing me the genetic disposition for a proportionally large ass. And then I want to go eat a sandwich.

Date: 2005-12-13 07:19 pm (UTC)I thought Zulema should have been kicked off the second episode. The other woman's may have been ugly as sin, but it was functional....

Date: 2005-12-13 08:34 pm (UTC)That crack about Zulema seeing dresses like that on lots of women just pissed me off. Honestly, woman, who the hell do you see walking down the street like that? Bitch, please.
I just took apart a pair of jeans to make that shrug thingy that Emmett made out of his jeans, and that is really easy to make and really comfy, too. Of course, I make it now and I won't get to wear it for four months or so, but still. It's a cute idea. :)

Date: 2005-12-13 06:30 pm (UTC)I will say this for Marla's designs- there is nothing else like them. It's really interesting to me that someone like her came out of Allentown, but on the other hand you could look at Jay and say the same thing.

Date: 2005-12-13 06:39 pm (UTC)*snickers* Well, it's either that or go to Dorney, and Dorney sucks. (Or at least, it did the last time I went. Not as bad as it used to when I was a kid, but still ...)
