Dear computer, please to not be exploding AGAIN for at least four weeks so that I might save up enough to buy a new computer that's not a worthless piece of crap out of desperation. Jesus Christmas, am I sick of this.

Anyway, I realized last night while watching PR that any of the three could have won and I would have been happy, although I didn't particularly like Chloe's collection at all. That's not to say I didn't think some of the pieces were pretty -- the gold dresses were meh to me, and that poofy pink dress just made me want to gag, not to mention that the baby-doll dress did funny things to that model's breasts, but everything else was lovely -- or that they weren't fitted, because they're right and Chloe does know how to fit a dress to a woman. It's just that there was barely anything in that collection I would have worn, and that's what bothered me about her win. Not her winning specifically, because I love her, but still. A lot of the time, as pretty as her dresses might be, I wouldn't wear them. (The day-to-evening challenge comes to mind as a prime example, because that thing was fugly.)

Daniel's collection ... okay, it didn't tell a story, but it wasn't bad at all, just not as cohesive as it should have been. There were pieces that I'd wear, but there were a few I'd avoid. I think he got a little full of himself towards the end, although who can blame him? But at the same time, even if Michael Kors offered him a job -- and I'd probably encourage him to take it -- I'd also tell him to run for the hills because Michael Kors spent the entire season acting like a self-centered dick.

As for Santino ... *deep breath* Here is where I defend Santino's collection. I personally didn't want to see Santino sending his usual down the runway. All of us spent the entire season complaining about how much extra stuff he put on those dresses, so I was happy to see that all the extra crap that was usually on them was gone. Thank GOD. The fabrics were pretty (I'm a sucker for pink -- you should see my closet), and I liked the styles of his dresses better than everybody else's collections. And as for the fit of his clothes to the models, yeah, he could have stood to see how they looked on a woman before he came to Fashion Week, but his models didn't show up until he was in the middle of working on a 13th dress, for crying out loud. And yes, he had Andrae there as a second pair of hands, but it had to be difficult to fit twelve dresses AND make another one in a shorter amount of time than everybody else had to play with.

Then again, maybe I'm just uber-grateful that he completely avoided the braiding and extras and razored hems and stuff. But his collection was still my favorite, while Chloe's was my least favorite, so ... hell, I don't know.

Can I have season three now? *bats eyelashes*

Urgh. I have to go write now. Oh, and get a new wallpaper, because fixing my computer AGAIN meant it ate my old wallpaper. Bah. I think I'll go find something pretty with Winchesters on it, which is redundant but still.

I liked Santino's stuff best, too--with the exception of one piece (that... front-lace leather thing with the big sleeves. What... was that?) I liked everything in his collection, which was a much better average than I could say for anyone else's. I loathed all but like three pieces of Daniel's, for example. (What happened, Daniel? What happened?) And while Chloe's was something like liking half, there were several dresses that were just so... good god. *headshake* It drove me nuts: he finally stops over-designing and works with the thing he was always good at--his base design, not tweaked too much--and they punish him for it.

Not to mention I've been bitching all night about Heidi's comment about the breasts. Woman, we're in awards season, and I can confidently tell you that Santino's dresses were much better with breasts than most of the things worn down the red carpet this year.

See, I kind of liked the leather thing. I mean, not to wear myself, of course, but I have a character in the Books of Boggs who'd a.) look perfect in it, b.) wear it out in public, and c.) be able to pull the whole thing off, so now I'm horribly tempted to actually write it into one of the books.

he finally stops over-designing and works with the thing he was always good at--his base design, not tweaked too much--and they punish him for it.

Exactly. And I've already seen people on ye olde friends list complaining about the exact same thing, and my mind, it is boggled.

And yeah, the boob thing was ... *headshake* I tried to see it, but the most I could see from most of his dresses was a bad fit, which is perfectly understandable considering his models were all late. Girls showing up at the last minute? Yeah, that's not going to help.

I wondered if they gave the win to the person they thought would be the best designer by the end of it.

Santino's talented as hell and has enough balls to make it in the industry. I really, really loved his final dress too.

Daniel's young, young young. Once he gets another 4-5 years of experience (especially with someone who's as complimentary to his style as Michael Kors) he's going to be fantastic.

Chloe's got the know-how, and that innate sense of what's going to look good on a woman's body. I think with a mentorship and 100,000 bucks she can stop worrying about what's going to be marketable and really go with her gut.

Plus she's adorable and tiny and I can't help but giggle when any of the models try to hug her. :)

I liked Santino's stuff the best too and I thought he should have won. I was surprised that I didn't like Danny V's collection more, because I usually really like his stuff. Two weeks ago, I thought he was going to be the winner--based on nothing.

However, Chloe is a dear and she's just as nice in person as she is on the show. Her normal stuff really is wearable (I live walking distance from her store) and it looks good on almost anybody. I was surprised by how matter-of-fact she was about what she had that the others didn't, though. It seemed so far removed from her normal personality on the show.

To say that I was underwhelmed by the collections is an understatement.

Santino, to me, seemed to have the strongest and most cohesive collection. Daniel's had the most of what I'd actually WEAR, and Chloe...

Oh, Chloe.

Chloe, you could have done SO MUCH BETTER. The fabric was very... early-nineties prom dress and ow. Hurts me deep down, Chloe. NO LOVE FOR THAT FABRIC. I liked the cut on a few of them, but oh I just can't get past that hideous, hideous fabric. BAD CALL.

YESYESYES. The fabrics in Chloe's collection were killing me. It's just like, "How much taffeta is too much taffeta? THAT much." And I'm not a good enough judge of fabrics to be able to tell that's taffeta on TV, but if it looks enough like it to question it and it's the same godawful gold fabric as one of my semi-formal dresses in high school, close enough.

I was completely unsurprised to see Chloe win.

Daniel's collection was versatile and beautiful, but it was also - standard. Nothing wowed me - and Rebecca's tripping probably lost it for him. He can make fabric flow beautifully, but that's not always going to be right.

I loved that Michael Kors offered him either a job or help in finding a job - and that is exactly what Daniel needs. Give him a few years experience to add to his brilliance and his eye, and he will be known.

Santino - He had pretty dresses. Most of them, anyway. He's brilliant and creative and it shows. But he's erratic and he's not good on construction or dealing with the real world. Thing is, his creativity would be better served if he could just sit and *design* and then give his designs to someone who can make them *work*. Which is why Kara won in the makeover - Santino basically designed his own outfit but Kara made it work. Interesting that his best was also his 13th design, which was with Andrae, who knows how to put garments together.

As for Chloe - *smile*. She already knows she can do sportswear because that's what she sells. And she's right in pushing her business ability because it *is* a business. Meanwhile, her dresses all had interesting details and cuts without being overly *fussy*. They're balanced, you know?

I knew Chloe had won the moment I saw her collection.

And she's the right person for it. Daniel's too young - he's still really finding his voice, and Santino will never let anyone dictate to him. Chloe can work for Banana Republic and make a gorgeous collection and learn things, and then come out still Chloe.

Chloe's pink dress? Molly Ringwald--Pretty in Pink. I expected a John Hughes musical montage the moment I saw it.

OTOH, I loved Daniel's clothes, but Chloe has the overall package right now. Maybe Project Runway wanted to give the prize money to someone who would take it this year. She'll be great mentoring with Banana Republic.

The Project Jay show was hysterical.

I think Daniel and Chloe had a standout outfit in their collections each: his white cashmere coat (which I will maim small children to own myself) and her finale cobalt dress (...small children are goners, but I wouldn't rock it anyway) wheras Santino's collection didn't really leap out to me, but it seemed almost like he was in a Catch-22 situation where he's either too much of him or not enough. He's also very self-aware, more than the other two (esp Daniel towards the end) of outside snark, and so overcorrects. Sort of a pity but like whatshername said, not the end of him by a long shot.

I liked Daniel a lot until the finale, and then I think he just went flatline. I loved Chloe's jewel-tones and all of the stuff was like crafted from the gods though it got a little repetitive with all that damn crisp satin. Oh well, I think everyone was well deserving. You could totally see how hurt Kara was that she didn't choose her as a partner. Heh.

That was my reaction too: I could have seen anyone win, but I'da been happier with one of the guys. I really liked most of Santino's, I loved a bunch of Daniel's (I will so fight [livejournal.com profile] cherrysher for the white coat), but Chloe's were so poofy in the sleeves and I *hated* her 13th look. I don't think I'd wear any of Chloe's, while I wouldn't mind trying stuff from Santino's and Daniel's.

I don't agree at all about Daniel being self-centered toward the end.

Daniel just needs to get that white coat mass produced. I would certainly buy one. To me, that was the standout piece of all the collections. Santino's collection was somewhat dull to me. He didn't really have a great standout piece. Chloe's collection was... interesting. And she's a more practiced, and more practical designer than either Santino or Daniel. Daniel needs experience, Santino needs to get a real understanding of female bodies. Of the three, Chloe was the most complete designer.
