I'm pretty sure I'm one of the few people on my friends list who will be watching something other than Lost or House at nine. Hey, if they're going to have an episode of Seconds from Disaster about the Titanic sinking, then goddamn it, I'm going to be there.

As for Jericho, it's getting better. Not a lot, but still.

Shep killed that guy? Aw. I mean, I saw it coming, but Shep seemed like a pretty cool guy and Grey is just an ass.

"They'll regret it when my spider-powers kick in." *snickers* I love Stanley to itty bitty pieces. And Bonnie continues to be beyond adorable. And if the bitchy IRS lady and Stanley are going to flirt, I have nooooooo problem with that.

I wish we could have had more Jake/Heather, though. My GOD, I hate Emily. I want her to mutate like WHOA.

I thought about the whole barbecue thing about a minute before they started talking about it. Because that much meat NEEDS to be grilled, and apocalypse or not, I really wish I'd been there. Beeeeeeeeef.

The black box recording is just freaking creepy. And with the estimates of how many were in the air and which cities were bombed, the best casuality estimate I can come up with is upwards of fifteen million dead. Of course, that's assuming you add together all of the people in the air and in the cities and surrounding areas and you assume that L.A.,
New York, and Washington got hit, and THEN you subtract a casual guesstimate of people who survived and were merely just injured.

... my God, I'm a nerd.

Robert Hawkins is as resourceful and creepy as Dale is resourceful and AWESOME.

In other news, Jake's brother is a slimeball. *gag*

EDIT: The title of the section of the Hiroshima entry on Wikipedia regarding the atomic blast is "Atomic PWNing."

Oh, for crying out loud.

You know, I wasn't there with the initial Emily-hate; I rather liked her at first. But this episode? I really don't like her. Jake/Heather all the way.

It didn't even occur to me how many planes would've been in the air. *shudders*

Well, think about how many flights were in the air on 9/11 and the problems there were getting them all grounded in under an hour. Then think about all those flights getting their electronics fried in a matter of moments and landing or crashing soon thereafter.

It was a detail I appreciated.

I'd say more than 15 million, given that they hit more than San Diego, Chicago, Denver, Atlanta, and Philly and more that we didn't see pushpinned last week. Given how densely populated all of those areas are and the range of a bomb, I'm thinking more like 50-65% of the country dead of primary causes, with another 20% to go with secondary causes (crashes, sickness, stupidity).

Yeah, Robert pulled out a LOT of pins.

True, but even with an atomic blast, not everybody nearby is going to immediately bite it. In Hiroshima, those right under the blast were vaporized, but there were certain things to expect health-wise for those who survived depending on how far away they were from the blast. The number of people living in the central metropolitan areas of the cities blasted is not half as large as those living and working in the outer areas. I marked up my estimates because of the time of day, then marked it down due to how many would probably be in the immediate proximity to the blast. In the aftermath that'll come after those initial eighteen hours -- oh, hell, yeah, that estimate will increase exponentially.

... my God, I am a HUUUUUUUGE apocalypse dork, aren't I? *headsmack*

I'd reckon these bad boys are a lot stronger than Hiroshima's were. I'm going mostly off of Alas, Babylon, but you're likely going to take out a lot more square mileage than a 1940s bomb.

True, but I was going for a conservative estimate for right now.

I need to google a population map.

Yeah, but we haven't gotten to the second stage yet. We're only in the initial stage, with the crashes and the initial blast. I'm not counting those who'll die down the line from accidents, starvation, stupidity, etc. or those who will die from radiation poisoning.

Still, 15 million's low with that many bombs. Maybe 15 million between NYC, Boston (I would assume that went kablooey if they bothered with Kansas City), and Philly alone.

Hence why I said "upwards of." ;)

I did add in a good chunk for D.C. and New York, but most of the other cities (and even the D.C. metropolitan area, really) are spread out over large distances, not cramped onto a small area like New York City. You can take out a good amount of New York at once, but survivors are going to grow in (great, scabby, cancerous) numbers when your city's spread out over more land.

And I kept a close eye on that map that they showed on the television -- Philly was marked off, but New York, D.C. and Boston weren't. I tried to restrain myself solely to those cities we've gotten confirmation of, for the most part.

DC's under 1 million in the city proper (which is tiny as cities go) I want to say 650,000, but I may be off. 1 million plus in the close area if you factor suburbs maybe. Philly's a better example of a spread out city--I forget if the city is 1 or 3 million.

I would assume NYC, Boston, and DC were done when the pins were done off camera.

Assume everything bright red is toast and that's a lot of people.

Yeah, but it's not worth doing more than a conservative estimate until we've gotten more than three episodes of information of where the bombs landed.

What is "Jericho"?

Hi there! Long time listner, first time caller!

My Jericho geekiness seems to know no bounds. I was an initial hater of Emily (cause of Asha, you know. And also the actress chick is pretty freaking hopeless)... But I dunno, last ep has me not hating her... She seems to have some sort of backbone. It interests me.

Also, I have a facination with backstory... They have one that i dont know about. From the few clues we've had, it has me far too involved already. I like Heather, but I want more Emily time so I can find out more about when they were kids. It makes me want to write fic its hijacked me so much!

Dale's brother is a jerk and kinda creepy, but not as creepy as Robert... Dude! WTF? That guys family is living in some kind of fear... And WTF is up with that rental garage? And WTF is up with his little locked room in the basement and whats behind the brickwall exactly?!?

GOD! I hate an unsatisfied curiosity!

I feel like a dick and its been bothering me all day (this is what happens when I get excited at 1am and decide to write comments instead of sleeping)

Jake's brother, Jake's brother is the jerk. I had planned on squeeing over Dale but my thoughts run faster than my typing... You know how it goes.
