Yahoo TV has clips from this week's Heroes up.

Okay, so that first scene josses Somewhere a Clock Is Ticking well and good.

DON'T CARE.

Know why?

Because that "Lucky Us" clip makes me GIDDY IN MY PANTS.

Hiro. And Nathan. HIRO MEETS NATHAN. AND HIRO GOES ALL FANBOY ON HIM. AND TELLS HIM HE CAN BEND SPACE AND TIME. AND SAYS HE SAW HIM FLY.

There will be Nathan FLYING and that will make me GIDDY IN MY PANTS TWICE.

*bounces around the room like a spazz*

I really need to write Nathan flying fic. Yes, I know I wrote Warren Worthington loves his wings fic. But it's not the same thing, because where there were wings, now there is fucked-up brothers who have to save the world.

*swoons*

I could do with some Chinese food right now.

Suresh. Mohinder Suresh. *grin*

And strangely enough, with the last week's episode, I'm actually finding myself more drawn to the story of Nikki (a.k.a. Vegas Webstripper Girl). Maybe it's just because the mystery's being unraveled a little bit, with less of the "oh God she blacked out and when she woke up everyone was dead!" angle.

I dunno, she just annoys me. 'No, i can't call the police! No, i can't tell anyone! No, i can't do anything *sensible*!!' Gah.

Everybody else, yes, they're interesting and i'm enjoying the story. With her, i just roll my eyes and wanna smack her.

"So my husband's being investigated by the police already for the theft of something near two million dollars. I'm basically a stripper who borrowed some money from the same guy my husband stole from. And these guys just seem to have gotten murdered IN MY HOUSE while I was, you know, sort of there, but I don't remember what happened. Wait, why are you putting handcuffs on me? I don't know what happened!"

She'd be the primary suspect in the murder investigation. She's got motive (trying to avoid paying back her debt), she was there, the bodies of the guys were apparently killed by shards of glass from her mirror. And SOMETHING happened, which ties in with how she'd been feeling watched for some time now. So, no, I find it entirely believable that she didn't go to the cops.

She did, however, tell her red-headed friend. And it seems pretty clear from what happened in the elevator that the personality with the powers is the one who's got most of the confidence and street smarts in that splintered psyche.

She should have had more brains than to get invovled with those guys in the first place! She's just *dumb*. And so she has some sort of alter-ego who killed those guys - she should have *not* taken the dead guys car and gotten the hell out of Nevada. Sheesh. I just...bah.

Nothing she did made me think well of her. She takes her kid to her mother in laws and *then* tells her m-i-l 'i want you out of my kids life!'

Ummm...then maybe you shouldn't *go to her house*, for fuck's sake. Sheesh. Bah. I think her friend thinks she nutso. I just don't like her. Gimme the cheerleader any day.

Where'd you get your Heroes icon from? Is there maybe an lj?
*hopes*

There's a difference between dumb and desperate, especially considering the man she borrowed the money from is the same man whom her husband supposedly stole money from. We don't have the full story yet, so we really don't know exactly what the circumstances of her getting the money from Linderman involved.

And considering she used the money to get Micah into a special school for geniuses, I'm willing to give her a little slack on that count. Hell, even smart people borrow money from the mob.

Also, the red convertible she took wasn't the dead men's car, it was in her name.

As for her mother-in-law, again ... desperation. When you have no one to go to, you'll grasp at any branch you can to save yourself, even if it's not one you'd normally reach for to save yourself. She might not like her mother-in-law, but it doesn't seem like either one of them have any other family aside from D.L., who's missing.

And who wouldn't think Niki was out of her gourd? She thinks someone is watching her, and she blacked out and woke up with two dead men ten feet away. If that's not the definition of temporary insanity, I don't know what is.

I could have *sworn* the guys drove up in the red convertible. How weird. Wonder why i thought that?
*ponders*

And yeah, we don't know the full story of the money thing, but wtf? Desperate, yes, but be *clever* in your desperateness.

I may sound unreasonable but from the *very first time* i saw her, doing her stripper act, i just rolled my eyes. I mean - seriously. Way to open yourself up for blackmail or weirdo loser stalkers coming after you or *whatever*.

Bah. She just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Reminds me way too much of people i know who just go from one dumb/desperate thing to another and never really *think*.

Sorry if you like her a lot or whatever, i just can't.

Then again, pornstars don't usually have college degrees. They do shows and fuck for money because they really don't have many other options. In Nikki's case? Single mother, 33 years old? Her going back to college, or trying to hold down a full-time job that actually pays decently, when her husband (who presumably paid most of the bills prior to the two-million-dollar disappearance) has already vanished, seems unlikely.

And the fact that she went to Lindermann rather than to an actual bank for a loan is quite telling about the degree of her desperation.

My question at this point is -- just what happened to splinter her personality in the first place?

My sis in law has four kids, no money from the ex's *yes, two* and goes to school *and* works, so...nertz to that.

I wonder if it was ongoing from like, childhood, and she just never had any really bad thing happen to make it so obvious?

Hrmmmmmmm....

Niki went to Linderman instead of a bank for a loan and Micah says they've had their electricity turned off for not paying the bills. With the kind of debt she must have, I can't see her being able to get the money she'd need for college classes. Not everybody can juggle five million things in their lives, especially when you add in the stress of her criminal husband on the lam, mob enforcers wanting their money, not being able to pay her bills, and being the only one available to care for her son.

Eh. I figure if my sis in law, who is really a bit of a nutcase, can do it, then stripper-chick has *got* to have some better options than stripping and borrowing huge amounts of money from loan sharks.

I just don't feel any empathy for her or care about her story or *anything*. I just can't muster anything for her. It's either a failing of the writers or my own issues, who knows?

Dude, I'm an intelligent creative woman with a good personality and a cute face and yet I'm living in a crappy apartment, I'm a single 29-year-old virgin, I work in a factory a trained monkey could get hired to work in because I flunked out of college, and I can't get back into college because I have debt up to my ears.

Entirely possible. The alternate personality could've grown up dealing with all the hard stuff, and so grew to be competent and hard-edged and cynical, with only limited control over what the primary personality does...

And come to think of it, maybe THAT'S why Nikki didn't go to the cops. The alternate personality KNEW that Nikki's fingerprints would be all over the stuff used to kill the mobsters.

Nikki seems very concerned with what happens to Micah. Witness her near-hysteria just when Micah wasn't in bed, that first morning. That concern seems to carry over to the alternate as well; thus, the threat she offers to Lindermann's mook in the elevator.

I kinda think the alternate is a lot more possesive/owning than actually like...super-caring. I think she wants Micah 'cause he's part of her but i can see her using him, too.

And yeah, possibly it's just the stresses in her life coming out more now...i wonder if the alternate wasn't *there*? I mean - obviously Claire-the-cheerleader wasn't invulnerable as a child or *somebody* would have noticed that she never got bruises or her scraped knee healed in like ten minutes...so maybe there's an age trigger or something...

Date: 2006-10-22 03:24 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kurukami.livejournal.com
Everything depends upon when these abilities started manifesting. It seems like it's relatively recent, as though something's changed. Matt Parkman clearly wasn't able to read minds before the instance in Los Angeles; Hiro Nakamura has just realized his abilities to bend time and space.

For Claire, the distinction could be fuzzier -- she fell down as a kid, but thought she hadn't fallen that hard. Skinned knees could heal up and stop hurting before she'd even noticed she had them. But something must have occurred, something potentially lethal, that made her consider her powers and start testing them methodically.

I don't think it's an age trigger so much as some outside, worldwide, common event... something that Chandra Suresh had been investigating for some time before our episodes' timeframe. The main protagonists we're seeing are spread from teens to mid-thirties and scattered across the nation -- presumably, if the map in Suresh's and Sylar's apartments are anything to go by, across the world.

Yes, that's so...it must be more a world/environment change... I missed a bit of the pilot,so i thought that maybe some stuff had been more clear but i guess not! Which is good, 'cause....i didn't miss anything! Heh.

Well, this show *does* seem to know it's own story really well, which is good, so i'm really looking forward for more of the 'mystery' to be revealed.

Date: 2006-10-22 04:03 am (UTC)

Ah, yes. The standard "I know someone who [did this thing], so there's no excuse for anyone else ever not doing it" argument. I was wondering when we'd get to that.

From: [identity profile] kurukami.livejournal.com
It wasn't the dead guys' car. It was registered in her name. Truth be told, I don't particularly like Nikki... but I do like, and am interested in seeing more of, the powered personality who seems so much more competent.

And yeah, the mother-in-law thing was more than a bit dumb. And then there's the whole thing with the bodies that had previously been buried out in the desert... I guess the writers figured they need some way to work in the backstory about just what her husband might've done and how she got involved with Lindermann in the first place.

The cheerleader, I agree, is far more interesting. But I'm willing to give webstripper-girl a few episodes more before I completely write her off.

The four icons I've got in mine I made myself, but there ARE some Heroes icon communities out there already. Check out:

Now, see, i totally didn't get the *other* bodies in the desert thing. Are we to assume she buried them, too? Or had something to do with it? Or....something? Her taking the ring of the freakin' corpse seemed *really* dumb.

And thank you thank you for the links! Yay!

Links are love. ; )

I'm still confused about the whole bodies-in-the-desert thing myself. The implication the writers were trying to aim for, I think, is that her husband did it... but I think it's more likely that her alternate personality did. For one thing, there's the shiny brand new shovel in the sand out there; for another, the alternate personality knew EXACTLY where to go and left a map. The thing that makes me wonder about it is that the bodies had clearly been there for some time.

Initially I'd thought that the black guy working with Daddy Bennet -- you know, the one who shielded from the telepathic cop Matt Parkman -- was her husband. But if that was the case, he totally should've recognized her in bed with Petrelli.

Another theory shattered by the writers. *grin*

Yeah, it toally made me think that she'd killed those people for sure, but it was *months* ago, seemingly, by the condition of the bodies so....she'd had the blackouts and didn't know about them? I dunno. Very odd, very intriguing. About the only thing about her story that is.

One way that it could be happening and she wouldn't know about it was if the alternate came out to play in the middle of the night, when Nikki was expecting to go to sleep. But as the stressors in her life have grown, so the alternate has been coming out more and more...
