-- Okay, so everything happened just as Isaac painted it except for the painting of Hiro and Ando showing up. Which makes me wonder, what if the paintings were out of order and Hiro and Ando are supposed to show up later rather than supposed to have shown up that night?

-- So we've got two timelines. In the first, Hiro doesn't show up in Odessa until the day with Charlie and she doesn't know him, and she dies. In the second, Hiro arrives in Odessa practically in Charlie's lap during her birthday party spends months in town to the point where the diner staff know him, and ... uh, she's still dead. Unless this is all being faked to throw off Sylar and Hiro and Charlie are in hiding together. What? If anybody could pull that off, it'd be Hiro.

-- Hiro and Charlie. *squeals* I swear, I haven't shipped a randomly-appearing-in-one-episode relationship on a TV show this hard since Tom and Alana on The 4400, although admittedly theirs was already gone further by the end of that first episode.

-- YAY, Zach! I want to keep him like a puppy. I totally would have had a crush on him if he'd been my best friend in high school, regardless of all the homosexuality. (God knows I've got precedent. *eye roll*) He's a gay Wiccan sidekick. How awesome is that?

-- Two Mohinders in one dream is now my new nightly aspiration. HUMMINA.

-- So Peter got a hit off Claire and off Sylar. Things should get really interesting when THAT pops up.

-- Thoughts on the preview for next week: A.) Is it just me, or did it look like Nathan deliberately drove into those highway barriers?, B.) Hiro made Charlie a roomful of origami cranes! EEEEEE!, C.) Eden got pulled over by Matt? Heeeeeee, and D.) Holy crap, Chandra called Mr. Bennet about Claire? Really? So Chandra only just figured out how to find these people but it sounded from the story Mr. Bennet told Isaac that he knew about these people way back when he first took in Claire. I really want to know exactly where they're getting this information about these people.

-- All right, kids, who's got a screencap of Chandra's list?

I don't think it's that. If Hiro hadn't timeskipped back to Peter from the future, Peter never would've used the phrase "save the cheerleader" in front of Mohinder. That would've meant Mr. Bennet wouldn't have suspected the threat to Claire, wouldn't have gotten Isaac and his paintings, wouldn't have had Eden and the Haitian capture Sylar -- and Sylar would've then been in New York City the day that Hiro timeskipped forward and saw the nuclear detonation.

Three guesses as to what cutting open the head of Ted Sprague, Mr. Radioactivity, would do, and the first two don't count.

I'm waiting for the next eps past the six-months flashbacks to fill us in on whether saving the cheerleader just meant collaring Sylar and keeping him from reaching NYC, or whether it was something more specific like that stealing her powers would have made Sylar nearly unkillable or that she has to do something that would kill any other hero to stop the nuke.

And then there's the question of whether Claire was even the cheerleader who needed saving.

What if they failed?

There's a line between pulling off a bait-and-switch that amazes and impresses the audience, and pulling one that pisses the ongoing viewers off because it makes them feel cheated. There's been too much of a buildup in the focus on Claire for them to get away with not making her be the cheerleader in question (especially with Isaac's paintings showing her face -- it was Peter's crappy work that made it so non-obvious that the dead cheerleader wasn't Claire, which was actually brilliant in terms of them misleading the audience without breaking the rules).

True. And ultimately I think you're right on the money, and that it is Claire everything hinges on.

But I like that the question has been raised. What I hope is that we'll see the characters wondering/worrying about it. I'd be disappointed in them if it didn't at least cross their minds, since they don't know that they're in a TV show and that there's any cheap bait-and-switch to avoid. All they know is that one cheerleader was saved but another died.

Claire's dad at the very least won't have any question that Claire-Bear is the one who needed saving, and Isaac's paintings do seem to bear out within the show's universe that Claire was the one in peril. After all, it's pretty easy for the folks most involved with "saving the cheerleader" to get that Jackie died because Sylar mistook her for Claire, once's Claire's powers and Jackie stealing the credit for the trainwreck rescue become more general knowledge amongst our cast of heroes.

I do like the idea though that as yet we and they have no idea what the connection is between Claire and the nuke, and that the spring half of this season is going to be about the heroes dealing with the various messes they're currently stuck in while trying to put the pieces together for that half of the puzzle.

Sylar already possessed some measure of regeneration, though, as evidenced by his getting right back up after Matt put half a dozen shots through his torso. However, the capture of Sylar (however temporary) aside, Claire may well be the only one who could get in close proximity to Ted Sprague long enough to stop him from doing... well, something that might result in New York going boom.
