I haven't been able to sleep all night long so I just went to take a walk through town.

The car dealership has a nice-looking used SUV for $2375 in the front lot.

Hmm. I may need to call my mom later on for advice because I'm pretty sure I can't get a loan from the bank but I really, REALLY want that car for many reasons. Not the least of which being all of its tires are inflated and I imagine the engine starts when you turn the key in the ignition, but maybe I'm just being picky.

my credit sucks. I mean, I can't even get a loan for 175 dollars from one of those mail order places.

But I did get a new car. I mean, 2006 even. I just went to a name brand dealer and sat down. I showed my income, they saw my credit. And yes it took a few hours, but I had a 22,000 car. I can refinance in a year when I've repaired some of the credit. The payments are a touch high, but I can make them and still eat.

Just ask a dealer to help. There's a way somewhere, even if you get a couple year old car out of it. It'll work, it'll be safe and you can always trade it later. they may even let your dead car serve as a down payment (like they did me)

Just an idea. worst they can say is no. And you'll only be out some time. But if they say yes....

Hyundai actually is really good for working with people who have shoddy credit, AND they have a 10 year bumper-to-bumper warranty. They might want a grand down and will definitely attach a higher interest rate to you, but they have 6 year, 7 year, whatever, payment plans.

If you go the used car route, set up a PayPal account for the "Buy [livejournal.com profile] trollprincess a car fund". I would definitely toss a few bucks your way, and as you have a billion friends on your list, it shouldn't take that long to buy yourself something safe & reliable. Because frankly, an LJ without a happy [livejournal.com profile] trollprincess is not a happy LJ...

NOOOOOO! Don't fall into the SUV-trap! Get a nice used fuel-efficient car! Or better yet, buy a scooter. You can get 60 miles to the gallon on one of those, and a new one will only set you back $2K.

The only reason why I don't have one myself is that my credit sucks giant donkey balls.

I'm tired. First time I read the entry I got the faint impression you needed to sell your mom.

Would she go for enough, though?

SUV s don't get good mileage, mostly, so, must it be a SUV?

I bet you could get a more gas efficient compact car for less. Just a suggestion.

I could be wrong, but I don't think that you ought to be able to get an SUV that cheap. There's probably something hideously wrong with it.

That was my first thought. I got a HUGE deal on my Ford Explorer a few years ago, way under the money because it had some minor cosmetic and frill-item issues, and it was still about $8000.

Do you have a trusted mechanic? It is always helpful to be able to get a pre-buying inspection from a mechanic you know to be honest (yes, they exist, even though they are rare in the wild) who has no connect with the dealer.
