Me: *walks out of work into the parking lot while reading a paperback*
Me: *glances at tires before getting into car*
Me: *notices car smells like cigarettes*
Me: (without looking up from paperback) "I'm in the wrong car, aren't I?"
Me: *sighs*
Me: *gets out of car and walks two spaces over to get into my OWN car*

For the record, it wasn't THAT good a paperback.

Well, I do. Which really makes me wonder about the person whose car I got into.

Clearly, they were asking for it. :)

Hahaha, yes, you should have taken off and sold it. Think of the DVDs you could have bought!

*snerk* I've had that happen, but generally I notice it's the wrong car when my key doesn't fit in the lock... : )

I've never got into someone else's car, but I did stand outside trying to unlock the jeep using the remote but it didn't unlock for 5 minutes before I realized it wasn't mine. Of course it didn't help my jeep looks like every 10th jeep out there.

This story makes me feels heaps better about walking out into a parking lot on Friday night, noticing a bruise on my almost pristine paint job, muttering unhappily, and putting my key into the lock only to find out that it wouldn't turn. Upon closer inspection, I notice there are bags in the passenger seat. I know better than to leave shopping bags in plain sight. It's then that I realize that it's not my car. This car was parked one lane and one spot over from mine, but it was the same make, model, color and model year. *face palm*

You know, that would never happen to me (the whole "someone got into my car by mistake" thing) because my car doors are almost always locked, all the time. Same with my apartment doors. I drove my ex crazy by insisting on double-locking the front door when all three of us were home. "You don't need to do that; we're here!" he'd say. I'd counter with, "Yeah, but we live in NYC, you dumbass."

He lives in California now. I really hope he locks all his doors.

Phew! That was a narrow escape, you were only minutes away from driving home to the wrong house...
