Okay, so I'm watching the 40 Least Hip-Hop Moments on VH-1 and they've been referencing some pretty cheesy crap. Just the absolutely worst stuff on the planet. And I'm thinking ... you've got to admit, there's just some songs that are so awful and so very, very bad that when they come on your car stereo first you die laughing and then you start dancing like an idiot.

So this is my challenge, because it makes me laugh, and I cannot possibly be the only one:

1. Go to Youtube and find the video for your favorite cheesy-bad song and/or one-hit wonder.
2. Post the video in the comments.

Well, your difficulty hearing it as entirely English is because it's Jamaican patois done very fast, middle-high, with a serious vibrato, and enhanced by a harmonizer with at least a triple tap, all over a fairly plain ragamuffin riddim.

He's toasting about an informer who got me him busted and jailed, and how he's going to find the son of a bitch who named him Sue nasty little grass and beat him to death (i.e., lick 'im boom-boom down.) There's probably other stuff in there as well, but it's a lot faster than I'm used to interpreting these days.

Now, I have to say that the original of this ("Le Moribonde" bby Jacques Brel) is rather schmaltzy in itself, but gets away with it by a) being in French and b) being Jacques Brel.

But then Rod McKuen got hold of it. Which isn't the end of its fall into the pit, which came with the wonderfully overbaked Terry Jacks recording that hit big in the seventies.

So. "Seasons In The Sun."



But because that isn't quite horribly, ear-bleedingly, brain-crushingly bad enough, here's Westlife covering it a few years back.

so i didn't actually have MTV, that was at my dad's house.

and this song came out about the time of S:tNG, and an episode about heaven and the people frolicking in a very adult way and my fever'd 12 year old brain just mapped this song to my first ever internal fanfic.
