Random stuff
Jul. 1st, 2007 11:57 pmApparently, the cat is dying for attention. This probably stems from the fact that I had one of those Sundays where you absolutely do NOT want to leave your bed, and so you don't, and you bring food and soda and your laptop and the remote for the TV into bed and just lie there and vegetate.
I think he thinks he needs to get me up and out of bed because he's been bringing what's left of his cow to me to play fetch with for most of the day. You'd be amused, too, if you just kept randomly napping only to have a dirty, torn-up cow doll dropped on your head. :)

Okay, so I seriously need to catch up with Doctor Who but there is one thing about the finale that regardless of the quality of the rest of the episode makes me a flailing mess.
So ... Jack as the Face of Boe.
YES, YES, YES.
I know some people don't want to think about him turning into that in a million years, but ... but the Face of Boe is cool. And he's around FOREVER. It's not like he's going to turn into that tomorrow. And even if he did, so what? Part of it is the fact that it means Jack doesn't go away. He's always going to be around, at least until "Gridlock", and could he mutate into anything more awesome in the Whoniverse? I THINK NOT.
The Face of Boe is practically immortal, and dies a hero, and gets pregnant more than once, and ... and ... Okay! Here's the thing that gets me. "Boekind" has been mentioned in canon, right? I mean, seriously, not only does Jack turn into that, THERE IS MORE THAN ONE. Where the hell do the rest of them come from?! From him? From the Doctor?
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH YAY.
I mean, if that's the way it is. But like I said, still haven't seen the last few episodes of the season. Need to catch up. *sigh*

Maddy Gaiman = Still looks frighteningly like my cousin Lauren. Heh.

So! People had stuff they wanted me to talk about.
dawnmipb wanted me to talk about The awesomeness of Scottish antiterror actions. And you know, I keep trying to read stories about the airport incident with as much seriousness as they deserve because it obviously is a horrible thing and should be taken very seriously. And yet the very first picture I saw of it was the burning car sitting in the middle of the airport or wherever it was, and all I could think was, "... oops." So now all I can do when I even think about it is try desperately not to laugh.
bluesister wanted me to talk about trust fund babies. It pretty much boils down to this: for God's sake, do something with it. I know it's really tempting to buy twenty Fendi bags and go snort blow with Lindsay Lohan while swilling thirty-dollar martinis, but yeah, NO.
secretbutterfly wanted me to talk about SG-1. I don't really follow it closely but I know the characters well enough that if it's on and I watch a random episode I can follow. It's one of those shows where I don't go chasing after the episodes or anything but I'll totally watch it if it's on.
And
pr_scatterbrain wanted me to talk about "the disappearance of the early Christian 'Good Shepherd' motif after the 4th century." Uh, can I talk about staring at that request and thinking, "Sweet chocolate-dipped Jesus, I would so have failed art history if I'd ever taken it. Not that I don't like art, per se, and I can draw if given the time. But my initial reaction was a lot like, O.o.
I'll save the virginity request for another post since, you know, that one could get a little long-winded. And if anybody else has a subject for me to talk about for that meme, ask away. :)

Date: 2007-07-02 06:07 am (UTC)The way he said it pretty much just sound like a coincidence and that Russell T. Davies is just being a bastard with our heads. And it didn't really look like the Doctor quite believed it.

Date: 2007-07-02 06:13 am (UTC)I just ... Jack. And the Face of Boe. My two favorite Who characters, as THE SAME BEING. *swoons*

Date: 2007-07-02 06:20 am (UTC)In the podcast, RTD said he is in the camp that it's just a theory. Julie Gardner is pretty much rolling her eyes and going, "He's totally the Face of Boe!"
But she doesn't really have much to do with the story in that way.
I don't know.
If it had been treated better, I might buy it. But it wasn't, and it doesn't seem to fit. It feels so very tacked on and completely dumb.
Like most of the episode.
Jack hardly did anything in these episodes, too, which makes that 'revelation' even more unexciting.
(I'm bitter.)

Date: 2007-07-02 10:05 pm (UTC)You're 100% right that he's lied before and the Doctor's reaction leaves room for backtracking in the future (by him or another writer).

Date: 2007-07-02 06:39 am (UTC)The wife sez Maddie Gaiman looks just like a miniature of her father. So if I ever see a wee female Neil Gaiman, I'm going to say, "Maddy! Lauren!"

Date: 2007-07-02 01:28 pm (UTC)Same here. I keep thinking, "They put handcuffs on a guy who had been on fire." And I'm smothering the giggles behind my hands. It's terrible, I know. Terrorism, awful, very serious....pwned.
And that's so sweet you haven't disposed of the cow.

Date: 2007-07-02 03:39 pm (UTC)Also, I loved the finale ep. It certainly wasn't up to the quality of Utopia (which now ranks of one of my favorite Ten episodes ever) and The Sound of Drums but it was excellent. For me, it represented the best and worst that Doctor Who has to offer. The good = incredible acting, unbelievably emotional character moments, and bizarre twists and reveals. The bad = some truly cheese-tastic plot points. Yeah, I cringed a few times, but I was also glued to the screen and moved to tears. I can't really ask for more than that. I think you might love it. (At least, I hope you do.)
