God, I'm so tired and sore all over.
Mar. 13th, 2008 05:38 pmSo I finally got a chance to test out the furry sandals.
Per Yahoo, it's currently 40 degrees out and sunny. It's not raining, and it's only a little bit breezy.
Pros:
1. I took a walk around the block behind my house wearing jeans and the flipflops and aside from the initial, "Huh, it's not that cold, but my toes feel chilly," reaction, my feet weren't cold at all. Unless you're really seriously intent on keeping your feet toasty warm at all times, they don't end up being cold at all. Plus, the fuzzy soles warm up after a bit of use and after I started to notice that I didn't even feel the slight breeze we were having.
2. Cleanliness-wise, these obviously aren't shoes you wear when it's raining or snowing or there's great big mud puddles out. Frankly, I should have walked along Main Street in them, but it's a small town and it's inevitable that I'd run into someone I know and I didn't want to hear, "You're wearing flipflops NOW?!", so I walked around the lower blocks which don't all have sidewalks. They didn't get dirty from the walk but I could very much see them getting dirty in the future, but they appear to be really easy to clean which is a good thing.
3. They're also not sweaty. It's forty degrees out, for crying out loud. If your feet are sweating now, you have a problem and may need to seek medical attention.
Possible con:
1. Well, my feet hurt right now, but I think that's less to do with the flipflops and more to do that after four straight days of standing for twelve-hour shifts on concrete floors, my feet have had it with walking or standing for a day or so.
Cons:
1. I'm not sure how they'd work out in the summertime, although on nights when the temps drop they'd probably be really nice to walk around in. Supposedly they cool down in the summer but I'll have to see.
2. They're really not the kind of things you wear for long hikes. Shopping trips, yes. School, okay. Going to Panera and curling up by the fire with an egg sandwich to read a book, sure. But I'm not sure I'd wear them for my trip to Hershey or barhopping on Parade Day.
