Fandom has ruined me.

Okay, the story of the pregnant transgendered guy? You know, I totally get how it works, I think it's great, and I wish him and his wife luck, 'cause people are already acting like idiots about it.
But I swear to God, every time I see the photo of him posing shirtless all I can think is, "That is a really good manip. What fandom is that from?"

Date: 2008-04-03 08:57 pm (UTC)I stopped taking my bimonthly testosterone injections. It had been roughly eight years since I had my last menstrual cycle, so this wasn’t a decision that I took lightly. My body regulated itself after about four months, and I didn’t have to take any exogenous estrogen, progesterone, or fertility drugs to aid my pregnancy.

On successfully getting pregnant a second time, we are proud to announce that this pregnancy is free of complications and our baby girl has a clean bill of health. We are happily awaiting her birth, with an estimated due date of July 3, 2008.
Although I know some people will criticize it, I think it's kind of lovely - too often we see transgender men in the media for horrible events such as bashings or ovarian cancer [see: Southern Comfort, which is a touching but seriously depressing movie]. This is beautiful and life-affirming.
As a side note, the idea of "my own surrogate" makes me think of seahorse imagery ;) I wish all men could have the option of bearing, or even surrogating, children...I think it would even the playing field/notions of "roles"... as well as bring families closer together.
