Okay, so the trailer for Monster, the Aileen Wournos movie, got posted on Apple today. As someone who's always been interested in true crime, I've got a working knowledge of most serial killers, and Aileen Wuornos is kind of hard to miss out on, since the media's always made a big deal about her being "the first female serial killer". Ehhhh ... wrong answer, Bob, but you do get this lovely set of steak knives.

In any event, Monster. Charlize Theron's playing Aileen Wuornos, who quite frankly was the skankiest skank who ever skanked. Now, here's what gets me. A few years back, they made an Aileen Wuornos TV movie with Jean Smart playing Wuornow. Jane Smart, who's about the same age, body type, etc. as Wuornos, and yet, in this trailer, Charlize fucking Theron looks more like Wuornos than she did. If nothing else, I've got to give Charlize credit. When actresses or actors make a big deal about drastic physical preparations for roles, it could go either way. Monster looks like it might at least get her physically and mentally on target.

I just hope they don't gore up the deaths for the audience, because Wuornos's murders? Not all that gruesome. She was a personality, to be sure, but she shot her vics, and the thing that made them gross in the end was exposure more than anything else. They seem to have everything else covered fact-wise, and from the trailer, I have faith that Charlize can actually carry it off. Although, I really do hope they include her getting captured and crying rape in every single murder she committed. That always left a bad taste in my mouth.

*pause, rereads post*

Oh, yeah, I should definitely have majored in criminology in college.

Not knowing anything about Aileen Wuornos, the movie actually looks really awesome from that trailer, which makes me happy. Charlize Theron usually annoys me so much, but she looks like she'll be interesting and compelling, even, in this.
