I am done with season one of Reaper.

1. The CW -- Now with two Antichrists named Sam for the price of one!

Sorry, I just had to get that off my chest.

2. I already knew about the possibility of Sam being the Devil's son when I started rewatching, and for a while there I was totally on board with that. And I still am, for the most part -- he does have all those powers, and the Devil does treat him differently, and Sam really should have rephrased his question to his mom about his "real" father -- but I really wouldn't be surprised if they pulled a last-minute switcheroo on that. On the other hand, I think I like the fact that the show is more straight-forward than that.

3. I really hope Cady doesn't turn out to be the Devil's daughter, too. Those things that happened when she was around only happened when Sam was there, too, right? The only ones I can recall were when he was around and I'm floating a theory that it was just him doing it and it never occurred to him that HE was the one who was the Devil's kid back then but he was psyching himself out and making him think she was doing it.

4. Oh, man, Tony better be back next season. You know, I thought I loved Ken Marino as Vinnie Van Lowe and then he had to show up as the Big Gay Demon.

5. I was on and off with Andi and whether or not I even liked her until she elbowed Sam in the stomach after seeing him behead that one demon and when she met Gladys and made that crack about her horns. Kinda depressing it took me that long to be fully on board the Andi train, but I'll take it.

6. I'm not all kerflaily about Sock but I definitely don't hate him so he turned out better than I thought he would.

In summation, next season I'm going to make more of an effort to keep up with the show. How about we keep our fingers crossed that I get a day job that doesn't suck between now and then, 'kay? :)

4. hee! I agree so much.

5. For me, the show as a whole improved a lot when they let Andi in on the whole reposessing escaped souls from hell thing. Also, Gladys makes everything more awesome ;)

4. I wish we could have Steve back too. Aw. I loved Steve and Tony together. They were so cute together.

5. Yeah, that was the biggest flaw I had with it after watching the whole thing. If Sock and Ben could be in on it, I had a hard time seeing why she couldn't.

It's so hilarious to see her playing, like, the anti-Delores Herbig. :)

You're just about the only person I know who watched the entire series. I'm very glad it got picked up for another season.

I thought the writing on the show improved a heck of a lot as it went on, adding characters, adding actual plot other than the 'we need to go catch the bad evil demon'.

What did you think about the scene at the very end with Sam's parents?

I watched the whole season! Me! Me! :D

It took a lot of people that long to get on board, but that's because it took the damned *show* that long to get *Andi* on board. If they hadn't gone on and on and on with "let's keep Andi in the dark for no good reason", I think people would have been on the Andi Train just as early as they were on the Sock train and the Ben train.

Also THERE'S BALONEY IN OUR SLACKS. \o/

I really wanted to catch up because the people I'd seen on my friends list who were still following it said it had gotten better. I really wish it weren't only coming back mid-season, though, but it's still thirteen episodes after that, so I'll take it. :)

What did you think about the scene at the very end with Sam's parents?

I'm toying with the idea that the deal was a set-up from the very beginning, that Dad (who may have been a demon from the start) escaped from Hell or was let go specifically to find someone to carry the Devil's baby. And that Mom wasn't in on the real story until very recently, and that between the two of them -- or maybe just her; if Sam is the Devil's son Dad's actions seem to indicate he might be in on getting him ready for his birthright -- they've gotten so attached to Sam that they don't want to put him in harm's way.

Oh man, I love Gladys. She's my favorite of the non-majors. And Tony. How can anyone not love Tony?

Love Sock, not too terribly into Ben, though. Adore Andi, could do without Josie (even if I have to give her major kudos for the whole scarf scene with Ted).

Oh, one of the things I really respected about the show is that the fact that Steve and Tony were two gay guys in a long-term relationship was more or less insignificant. I mean, the fact that they were in love wasn't, but that they were gay didn't bother any of the main characters after the initial, "Is it weird that we just replaced our parents with two gay guys?" reaction. Sock, Ben, and Sam are the type of characters who'd normally be creeped out by it, but it was more of an, "Oh, okay," and the demon thing bothered them infinitely more than the gay thing did.

Absolutely. The look of disappointment on Steve and Tony's faces when they were all "You're demonphobic?" was priceless. Big gay couple living next door? Eh, whatever, they're great guys and obviously in love, look at them! But big demon couple living next door, that gets trippy.

It's that the trio of Sock, Ben, and Sam are such regular, average, everyday guys. They're the boys next door, the ones you'd give your keys to when you went on vacation. Showing, and showing it so very very very clearly, that they have no troubles, issues, or leeriness about the sexuality of their neighbors, makes a great point about how normal they consider the relationship.

I felt the same way about Fiona in Burn Notice, another show that might be right up your alley. (A snarky shirtless ex-spy and Bruce Campbell to boot, what's not to love?) It took me a long, long time to get to like her and that was only because she seemed like she was throwing herself at the main character at every opportunity. Also? Her character had way more chemistry with Bruce Campbell's to begin with.

*sends you getting-a-day-job-that-doesn't-suck mojo* ; )

I still have to watch the last few eps from this season, but it sounds as though it turned out more or less how I expected it to. *grin*

One of my major problems with the beginning of the season was the whole keeping Andy out of the loop thing - it made me crazy that Sock and Ben could be in on it, but she couldn't. That, and the repetitive nature of the first few episodes, with no movement at all (Sam whines. See Sam whine. Whine, Sam, whine.) made me less than enthusiastic, but the introduction of Tony and Steve and the whole demon rebellion thing, plus getting Andy in on the action, and using Gladys more, made it much more enjoyable.

I mean, I would probably watch the Sock-and-Ben (and Gladys) show, because I think they're hilarious (though the fake marriage storyline was painful), and Ray Wise as the devil is fantastic, but I thought they really brought their A game for the eps after the hiatus.

I think the thing with Andi was the writers felt like they had to keep the secret from someone so that there would be a lot of awkwardness there, and then they turned around and made Andi more fun and interesting a character when she was in on the work schemes and tricks with the boys. It was obvious she could be clever, mischievous, and keep a secret, and yet still they wouldn't let Sam tell her.

And yeah, Sam's whining and moaning got to be a bit much, which was why I kinda wanted to smack Sock in the finale when he said Sam wasn't good at anything, so he probably wouldn't be good at Armageddon. Even with lame vessels, personal annoyances from the Devil himself, and the hindrance of the fact that everybody has obviously been keeping secrets from him all season long, he STILL has gotten better at being a Reaper and it seems to be the only thing he really is good at.

I forgot to mention it, but one of the reasons I was totally on board with the Satan spawn plotline is that the entire season felt a lot like the owner of a company making his kid learn the ropes from the ground up by starting in the mailroom. The Devil could just hand Sam a cushy high-up job, but it's going to be tough for him and demons are going to come after him, so he's got to have it hard or the kid who had to leave college because it made him sleepy isn't going to be able to handle his birthright.

Yes. Exactly. It felt a lot like the devil was teaching Sam and Sam, after the first few episodes, was definitely learning.

ok. I have a question since you have watched the whole season and I missed most of it.

at the end of one of the last eps Sock throws the baseball and takes out the escaped soul...when did he get that ability? Last I knew only Sam could do that 'cause the ep with the magic bullet kitchen utensil thingy Sock tried to use it and it wouldn't work for him.

Alleviate my confusion please?

Also, the show has really started to grow on me. I can't say I will ever love it like SPN but I will make a point to sit down and watch it next season.

I should rent the whole season and catch up...

Sock was kissed by a succubus in that episode. It gave him a ridiculous burst of energy and strength for a while but it took a year off his life. That's why he had the strength to throw it through the window of the car and take out the soul. But yeah, anybody with the vessel can take out the soul, it seems. (It doesn't look like Sock couldn't use the magic bullet vessel, just that he tossed it to Sam to use instead.)

hrm...are you sure? I remember him opening it up and kinda giving it a little shake like "work you stupid thing" and then when it didn't he pitched it to Sam...I could be wrong though.

I didn't think about the succubus kiss giving him the strength to do that...thanks!

It took me that long to buy a ticket for the Andi Express as well. Before Sam, ahem, came out to her, she was okay enough. But she adds this fresh perspective to the soul-seeking crew, one that I didn't realize they were missing until now.

That said, it hurts my heart that everyone isn't as in love with Sock as I am. Though I do adore Tony and the devil (of course), Sock's little idiot side-plots with Ben (carried out frenetically while Sam finds something else to throw up his hands over) are what really keep me watching.
