An 11-year-old Romanian girl who is 21 weeks pregnant after being raped by an uncle will be able to have an abortion, even though it is forbidden by law.

The part that pissed me off the most:

Some 20 Christian Orthodox groups had threatened to press charges if the girl was allowed to abort the foetus.

In a letter to the government committee, the girl said she wanted to be able "to go to school and to play".

The two sentences one right after each other just ... RAGE. RAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE.

I'm just glad the Romanian government is allowing it. It restores a little bit of faith that just sometimes, the powers that be can actually do something good.

The members of those religious groups don't care if this girl's life is ruined as long as people are forced to live by their beliefs. People like that make me sick. I bet they'd would change their tune if it was their little girl.

I hope they castrate the uncle when they find him. The whole situation is sickening. I've never been able to wrap my head around how someone could get any pleasure from rape; let alone the rape of a child.

There was a similar case in Poland, where a fourteen-year-old girl and her family were put through living hell by anti-abortion activists when she tried to get an abortion after being raped. She was able to get an abortion -- it was legal under Polish law -- but probably only because of the media attention.
