In an interview just a month ago, [Gov. Sarah Palin] dissed the job, saying it didn’t seem “productive.”

In fact, she said she doesn’t know what the vice president does.

Larry Kudlow of CNBC’s “Kudlow & Co.” asked her about the possibility of becoming McCain ticket mate.

Palin replied: “[A]s for that V.P. talk all the time, I’ll tell you, I still can’t answer that question until somebody answers for me what is it exactly that the V.P. does every day? I’m used to being very productive and working real hard in an administration. We want to make sure that that V.P .slot would be a fruitful type of position, especially for Alaskans and for the things that we’re trying to accomplish up here for the rest of the U.S., before I can even start addressing that question.”

Your possible next vice-president, ladies and gentleman.

Hey, at least she's got lady parts! All you Hillary voters are stupid enough to fall for that, right?

(Note: I do not actually think anyone I know is stupid enough to fall for that. Not even my cat. In fact, I think even the chinchillas would call bullshit.)

What is it exactly that the V.P. does every day

What is it exactly that the V.P. does every day

Every time I read that, a part of my soul dies.

Let's be fair.

The only reason I haven't already split for Toronto or Vancouver is that it's too fucking cold. (I grew up in New England, and that was already too fucking cold; more north BAD.) Of course, with England both unlikely and looking less and less like an alternative... well. What's Australia's immigration policy like?

...Cold? Vancouver? Are you sure we're talking about the same place?

I mean, we get about an average of two inches of snow on the ground every winter. The temperature never dips below -10C at the very outside - winters run more like slightly below zero. Toronto, yes, it'd get frigid there, but here in Vancouver we're living in a temperate rain forest, plus getting the warm winds off the Pacific, and... Well, it's the balmiest place in Canada, basically. You want cold and snow, you have to go up into the mountains to find it. Not that they're very far away, but...

It's really rather like Seattle, and I'm sure you've heard about their lack of winter. XD

Never, ever underestimate the human capacity for boneheadedness, darlin'. I have no doubt that your chinchillas are smarter than some people out there who can not only vote, they can drive cars, drink and reproduce as well. (Come to think of it, with a great many of them those last two are often linked.)

I was saying to Glinda yesterday that I thought McCain was going senile and just doing what he was told. Now I'm starting to think that his campaign is being put together on the fly by David Lynch.

To be fair, how the VP role is defined depends largely on the president. Dan Quayle, like many a VP before him, ended up spending most of his time attending the funerals of foreign dignitaries. Gore and Cheney, on the other hand, had/have substantive roles--perhaps too substantive in Cheney's case.

So it's a legitimate question: What kind of job will VP be under McCain?

The more important question is: With McCain celebrating his 72nd birthday today, is this really the person ANYONE wants one heartbeat away from the presidency? Her resume is thinner than Obama's, a point that I'm sure will be hammered into the ground over the next few days. And although I haven't seen her speak, her lack of experience makes it pretty likely she'll be eaten alive by Biden in the debate.

Date: 2008-08-29 05:36 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] doqz.livejournal.com
Yeah, it will be interesting to see where the trend goes. Gore and Cheney both redefined the traditional (Trumanesque) role of the VP as an empty suit. Wonder of the new role sticks.

I do not actually think anyone [I know] is stupid enough to fall for that

I don't know about people you know. Nobody I knew in the whole world, voted Bush either four years ago. But scratch the 'I know' part and you get a sentence to which I wouldn't offer a definite answer under force. There are plenty people out there with no interest at all in politics, just looking to make a little cross on a piece of paper.

I said the same thing. And yet...a 20-point swing among white women who are now backing McCain by a 20-point margin. Guess we were wrong. Sigh.
