Which couple actually know each other? I think that picture is more, which couple is not composed of posable (in)action figures?

Heh.

The Obamas shared a kiss and a hug. The McCains kissed and immediately disengaged.

Also, I didn't look for confirmation on this (and I was distracted at the time updating my post) but after the town hall meeting, Michelle Obama went up to the audience and shook hands and posed for pictures. Cindy McCain stood around with her hands behind her back. I know who I want MY first lady to be.

Oh, I know. At least this time the McCains didn't immediately flee the premises while Michelle and Barack hung out and chatted and generally were cute, likeable, and smart (not that that is in order of importance, but it doesn't much kill me that besides the S, they have the C and the L), like the last time.

I was mostly just commenting on this specific image, in which they both completely look like mannequins.

That was annoying as hell to hear about. You want to lead these people? You might want to hang back and try talking to them every chance you get. Voters like to be engaged, not ignored.

Yeah, that. Which, for a politician, I mean, okay, W is an idiot about lots of things and wrong about many, many others, but I do give him credit for one skill: hanging out. This skill alone does not, by any stretch, make one a good president, but I do think awareness of its importance and the effort to do it are pretty critical, you know?

...I don't know. Do you really need to be the "hanging out" type to be a good President? I think political life naturally filters out most introverts, but that doesn't mean they can't do the job well.

Now, I have no idea if McCain is actually an introvert, nor do I care, but I do feel a little bad when I see people being called assy for not schmoozing enough. He'd be a crap President for plenty of other reasons anyway.

I see your point, but also, "schmoozing" and "being around people and listening to them" are overlapping, but not identical, skillsets, IMO.

I'm the introvertiest of introverts, and I still think it's utterly critical that a president understand the value of listening in all the many contexts in which it would come up, including things like town halls, though I agree, the same function might be achieved by for instance employing a staff to pass along particularly interesting letters, and tally up the general opinions expressed in the rest. But for that to work as a substitute mechanism, it has to be clear you do it.

Oh yes, listening is definitely a hugely important thing for a politician. I'm just not sure that going to hang out with people after a town hall is the best test of that.

Read this article about Cindy McCain yesterday and I totally feel a bit for her. Because of his Washingtoninan duties, she had to endure miscarriages alone. DUDE.

After reading the profile piece (for which Cindy declined to be interviewed) I feel more sympathy for her as a woman because it paints the portrait of a woman who just really fell for a guy and totally loves and supports him. Doesn't make me want to vote for him, but it also is keeping me from making fun of her.

Yeah, Crystal Skull had some great moments — my personal favorite was Prof. Jones taking a moment in the middle of a motorcycle chase to answer a student's question — but there was a lot of failsauce ladled over everything. (OMGWTFmonkeys?!?)

I really should have warned you about Indy.

Oh, that's okay. Everybody warned me about Indy but I had to get it out of the way eventually. :)

Matt and Trey seemed to agree with you. Those are some clips from the episode where the boys have Steven Spielberg and George Lucas charged with raping Indiana Jones.

I love Indy IV, but I also love MST3K - I go to movies to have fun and if the movie doesn't bring it, I DO. *FISTSHAKE!*

That said, I... I kind of loved Shia in it. But the best part was how RIDICULOUSLY HAPPY Marion was to be in the movie. You could just tell. She was SO HAPPY to be around Speilburg and Ford again. SO ADORKABLE.

Oh, yeah, I agree on both points. I'm kind of a sucker for pop-culture-icon-has-kid stories (it was the one thing I liked about Superman Returns, really) so now I want stories where Indy and Mutt go off on adventures and stuff.

And Marion! Who is awesome and kickass and one of my favorite female characters ever so I was as thrilled to see her again as she was to be there. :)

Oh dear. I'm just getting ready to watch Indy IV. Fortunately, I'm going to watch it with a nine and seven year old, which I've heard is the intellectual level, so maybe that'll make it more tolerable.

*hopes*

I was highly entertained by the movie. :) But yeah not going to win awards. :) I was really surprised that Marian was in it! but so very happy she was. :)

Yes, the fourth Indy is really, really shitty. The bright star of Shia was not nearly bright enough to cover up...the plot.

The first time I saw the new Indy I laughed though the last 15 minutes and all the way to my car. My friend got worried about me. The second time I saw it me and a different friend tried to see how many other movies they seemed to have stolen stuff from. Makes it much more interesting that way.
