This article about a couple who downgraded from a larger home into one the size of a shed amuses me because it fits me and my brother so well. Both of us would be perfectly content in a tiny little house like that. Bryan just wants somewhere to play his video games and prefers his futon over a real bed. And I'm actually fine as long as I've got a laptop and a comfy chair. Besides, I don't like a ton of furniture everywhere and that means a metric assload of floor space to keep clean otherwise so hey, bring on the tiny house. :)

After spending 2 years in NYC essentially living in a 9x11 bedroom, after 2 years in Boston living in a 10x12 bedroom, after four years in college in dorm rooms...

...having a living room and a kitchen again, ones I can USE, with a sofa to sit on and floor space all my own, has been bliss. It doesn't need to be some big McMansion operation for me but I really like having three whole rooms. With a few square inches that I don't strictly need.

(Right now it's me and the BF sharing a three-room apartment: living room, bedroom, and kitchen/dining room. That seems to work out really well.)

That's a little extreme, but I wouldn't mind a smaller place at all. Especially when the dustbunnies get fruitful and multiply like hell.

Unfortunately, I married a packrat who keeps expanding to fill the available space. *facepalm* When we bought our current house (which I actually do love; I just hate cleaning it), I informed him in no uncertain terms that we would NOT be getting a larger one until and unless we could afford for someone else to clean it.

I wouldn't mind living in a smaller space, but I would definitely need room for my bookcases and dvd stands. I could put in floor to ceiling wall shelves to store stuff.

I honestly don't know if I could live in a space that size. I think it requires a level of organization I don't have.

However, I do admire anyone who can reject materialism like that.

The tiny house blog. I follow this and looking at all the plans for these small homes is kind of fascinating. I've pretty much decided that if I ever, for some magical reason, have the cash to build a home, it'll probably be no bigger than 800 square feet. I can't go down to the under 200 level, let alone the under 100 that some of the tiny houses are, but 800, that I could do.

800 square feet is honestly just about perfect for me. My new house is a 'little house' and it's WONDERFUL.

Not sure if I could do that, it makes me think of my play house from when I was little. Not that I live in a huge house. Being turn of the century it's not large. Well maybe for one person but there are cats, and my roommate is planning on returning from AZ sometime soonish.
