While I fully agree that the amount spent on Gov Palin's wardrobe was utterly obscene, I do believe that there is a double standard when it comes to clothing. To take another approach, a couple of years back, the Danish press was utterly up in arms over the amount spent on Crown Princess Mary's wardrobe. But when she tried to economise, they went to town on how she was wearing the same outfit twice, OMG! (Palin and the GOP still should have actually tried buying things a little cheaper -- or not as many outfits -- all the same)
