-- You know who could very easily play my landlord in the movie about my life? Jeffrey Dean Morgan. He'd have to regrow the beard and wear a knit hat from October to April, but ... yes.

-- You know what makes me far too happy? That whenever the History Channel interviews experts on the Civil War and the Old West, the experts nearly always have awesome mustaches that curl at the end and Van Dykes and mutton chops. I don't know if they just do that in makeup or what, but I don't care 'cause it makes me happy.

-- I want to have a baby if only for the tiny, tiny shoes. If I buy them without a baby, that's just depressing.

Actually, the tiny, tiny shoes are a pain in the butt because they never stay on, so you spend half your time running around to figure out where you dropped this miniscule little shoe and it's always under some heavy piece of furniture.

No no, you really want the little shirts and overalls. Because there is absolutely nothing in this world more adorable than a little baby in overalls. I kid you not.

Or, in the words of Hemingway,
For Sale: Baby shoes, never used.

Oh no. They're that way all the time. All the time.

Given that it's a known thing for fans to start styling their hair like their current fave character, and given that historical geeks may well be re-enactors as well and hence have the same excuse as fannish costumers to make their RL style something that meshes with costuming... Yeah, wouldn't surprise me a bit that fans of Old Timey would be inclined to archaic whiskering.

ETA: My father is a military history geek and a Civil War buff in particular -- at one point he was in a local re-enactment group -- and I was thinking about whether his own facial hair ever bore out the premise, but no. He had more of a Tom Selleck-style moustache, from the 70s up until the early 90s when he shaved it off, and since then has been IIRC sometimes-moustached and sometimes-not. No awesome handlebar when he was actually putting on a Confederate uniform and heading out to practice marching with the group.
