-- If I could get away with sleeping the entire day away, I would. My selfish, misbehaving reproductive system, let me show you it. No, really, let me show you it -- if all this pain and discomfort keeps up, I'll dig them out with a spoon and sew myself back up by hand.

Okay, so my real plan is to dope myself up with painkillers and try to do the writing I couldn't do yesterday thanks to my stupid stomach cramps. Urgh.

-- Pregnant Briton to escape death penalty in Laos: This entire story reeks of unwilling drug mule, and for added fun, the pregnancy is five months along, while she was arrested in August. You do the math.

-- This is actually fairly deep for a photo of Oscar the Grouch.

-- THE parents of a nine-month-old girl who died from septicemia were responsible for their baby's death because they shunned conventional medical treatment for her eczema in favour of homeopathic remedies, a court heard yesterday. You know, it's one thing to want to focus on a certain arena of medical treatment when it's working, but when you stubbornly refuse to try something else that's known to work to go along with your specialty, which clearly isn't, you're a selfish tool.

-- David Ogden Stiers, the Emmy-nominated actor who first found widespread fame playing Major Charles Winchester on the TV series M*A*S*H and who later voiced many characters in animated Disney musicals, has come out in an interview with the gay Oklahoma City blog gossip-boy.com.

-- Chace Crawford is going to be a guest of the Fox News Channel at the White House Correspondents dinner this week. Do with that information what you will.

-- Speaking of Gossip Girl stars, here's Ed Westwick at what I believe I read was a charity soccer match. I agree with one of the commenters -- he looks way better in a football kit than he does in Chuck Bass's wardrobe. Yum.

-- U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan told to "hunt people for Jesus." Oh, there's video of the chief of the military chaplains telling them as much. Lovely.

-- A fabulous article on Marian Robinson, the First Grandma. Aw, she's so cute.

-- Birth of large child nearly killed mother Holy crap, that kid's GINORMOUS. Did he invade Tokyo right after birth, or did he wait for a sandwich first?

-- Rupert Murdoch's Dickipedia entry. Heh.

-- Judge Judy vs. Michelle Bachmann comic smackdown! *dies laughing*

-- I didn't know the father of the 3-year-old little girl from Malawi that Madonna wants to adopt is only fifteen himself. Huh.

-- Jenny McCarthy is going to get her own talk show. But the question is, how many shows are NOT going to talk about how vaccines cause autism? 'Cause I can totally see her dropping that topic into every single interview somehow.

Not to mention, the homeopath couple took themselves to the hospital when the wife had gallstones, but still didn't take the baby until she was beyond saving. That's what really disgusted me.

I haven't read the article on the homeopath case, just heard what was on the news and everyone sitting at the dinner table at the time just looked at each other and agreed we would not want to be on that jury. The parents were stupid and negligent and clearly ignored all the signs, but what I can't get past is the fact that eczema is what brought on the septicemia. The poor girl essentially died of a skin rash and that is what I cannot believe. I can't believe anyone letting it get to that stage, I can't believe they went overseas with their child in that condition, I can't believe what I hear about how fragile her skin was, I can't believe the parents let it get there, and I cannot comprehend any of it. My mind just goes to this place where I cannot think about it.

However, David Ogden Stiers, the voice of Cogsworth, Major Winchester (have I ever said how much I want a MASH/SPN crossover? Because, hello!), coming out had me doing \o/ IRL. So I'm going to ignore the tl;dr paragraph above and celebrate him coming out and possibly go read Lumiere/Cogsworth some more

And when I read through the article on David Ogden Stiers I am saddened by remembering that while they were making Beauty and the Beast Howard Ashman was on his deathbed with AIDS, something he didn't even tell Alan Menken about until after they'd won their Oscars for The Little Mermaid because of the stigma. And my God, Disney (or, hey, Michael Eisner), if you wanted me to hate you, the thought of what you were saying to DOS at the time would be a really good way to go about it. Dammit.

My brother has eczema and psoriasis, and has had all his life. A few times as a child and teenager his skin got to the stage that it was actually sloughing off - but he had medical treatment. It was pretty horrible to see and I can't imagine how you would just leave a baby in that state, only worse.

So, I'm taking a virology course this semester, and as utterly crazy as all the stupid assignments are driving me, there was one on the measles vaccine, focused on the autism scare. Having done the research now, I am rubbing my hands together in glee, looking forward to the day when someone says to me, Hey, don't vaccinate your kids, it causes autism!!11 so I can say in reply TORI SMASH >:(

isn't that the one where the guy behind the main study people cite recently came out and admitted that he faked his data?

Yes. Yes it is. Not that that's stopped true believers.

well, you wouldn't want science to get in the way of a good narrative, would you?

To be fair, a lot of the science surrounding autism is variable, and parents will look for anything to find a reason. It's the fuckers who profit off their desperation who should really be smacked.

Good for David Ogden Stiers! (Known to Myst/Uru fans for his portrayal of "Zandi" in Uru - Ages Beyond Myst and "Esher" in Myst V: End Of Ages)

I think he was fifteen when the two teenagers got together, and then the family told him Mercy and her mother had died. He's now 19 or 20, from other reports. The whole mess - the place where Mercy is staying has done shady adoptions and although offering excellent care, is not a good idea - no foster care system, a focus on international adoptions, and for the love of all, after the debacle with David, could she not have gotten a damn background check done first?

U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan told to "hunt people for Jesus."

Oh, for fuck's sake. And here I thought America was above that shit. (There was a similar scandal recently with Israeli rabbis exhorting soldiers that they were fighting a "holy war" during the West Bank invasion.)

... and for added fun, the pregnancy is five months along, while she was arrested in August.

It might not have been rape. It might have been a gaoler talking her into it on the grounds that pregnancy would save her life.

I honestly can't decide whether that's more morally repugnant or not.

So yeah. I'm kind of sickened by the whole damn story.

That still counts as rape. He can tell her whatever he wants to have sex with him, it doesn't change the fact that he's in a position of power over her and prisoners, being in the position that they are, can't consent to sex with a jailer.

I thought 9/11 happened because God had abandoned us for not being a properly Christian nation. Now, we're the only Christian nation left? These people need to get their stories straight. I'm so confused.
