Dec. 8th, 2005 07:10 amOkay, so here's the thing. You know that thing I said last night about wanting fic for the holidays? Well, here's what I was thinking last night at work.
What if you could make a wishlist of fic ideas -- stuff you'd like to see written, story ideas, pairings you don't see enough of ... stuff like that -- just like the wishlist meme and then post the link to one spot (if I did something like this, I'd probably put up a post later today when I wake up where everybody could comment in) where people could just pop in whenever they want during the holidays to maybe be inspired enough to either rec you fic that fit the criteria or write you something? No pressure, no deadlines (although it being a holidays thing, you might want to get anything finished by mid-Janury or so), and the only thing you'd be asked to do is go to anybody else's wishlist and write at least one drabble and/or pimp the whole thing? You know, so this way as many people as possible could get a little something they desperately wanted. No word limits, so you could write anywhere from 100 words to 100,000 if you felt the urge. Generally, just a little charity among friends. Honestly, I love the wishlist meme, but the only one on everybody's lists that I knew I could afford was fic. This way, we can all go wild and get some stuff we've been wanting to read in the process. :)
So what do you think? 'Cause I was thinking about it at work last night and I think it might be cool. Like an easier-going holiday ficathon with no hidden names or deadlines or anything. Not that there's anything wrong with those. ;) Just that my brother and I give each other our presents before Christmas so we have something to tide us over until Christmas morning, and I kind of think that might perk people up for the holidays to just have fic randomly appearing in their inboxes. You know, if LJ ever gets its comment-sending act together.
Then again, it is seven in the morning and I just worked all night. My brain could be broken. Wouldn't be the first time.
