Like a frantic John Lithgow who's spent the entire movie condemning every book not the Bible and then is shocked - SHOCKED I TELL YOU - to see his followers burning books in that scene in Footloose, Glenn Beck has come out against the Koran burning in Florida.
Which would sort of be a whole broken-clock-is-right-twice-a-day sort of thing, if it weren't for this:
What is wrong with us? It’s just like the Ground Zero mosque plan. Does this church have the right? Yes. Should they? No. And not because of the potential backlash or violence. Simply because it is wrong.
I wonder if he understands how PROFOUNDLY CREEPY it is to compare building a community center with a prayer room in it with peaceful outreach intentions to burning the holy books of a religion you find to be a terrorist factory out of blind bigoted hatred.
Eh. With Glenn Beck, the options are either that he understands well exactly how creepy it is and knows full well that his followers don't, or that he doesn't understand because he's out of his goddamn mind like that. Either way ... ick.
And the thing I still can't get over in regards to the whole stupid "Ground Zero" "mosque" argument is that there's already a goddamn mosque four blocks away from Ground Zero. All I'm looking for is some consistency in my arguments, so goddamn it, why have I yet to see anyone on the right demanding that Masjid Manhattan shut its doors after forty years? (That's not to say that they haven't, but I haven't seen it yet, so.) Maybe they realize it's being a little TOO douchey? I don't know. You'd think people would be more concerned about the ACTUAL mosque that's been four blocks from Ground Zero for all this time instead of the chapel in a hospital -- oh, sorry, the prayer room in the community center that would be two blocks away.
This is like the worst modern retelling of Goldilocks ever. Two blocks away -- "This porridge is too cold!" Four blocks away - "This porridge is just right!" All the way in Tennessee -- "HOLY SHIT YOU GUYS THAT PORRIDGE IS ON FIRE!"
