You'll Never Guess Orphan's Surprise Ending, Because It's Completely Ridiculous

I knew it! \o/

Okay, well, not the ex-hooker for pedophiles bit, but I doubted "bad seed" was the simple straight-forward ending given the film industry's desperation for twist endings anymore. I was thinking about it the one day after watching the preview on TV and thought, "You know what I bet it'll turn out to be? She's really a psychotic adult who's just small."

For the record, I suck at figuring these things out, so when I do that's not good. Heh. :)

... I lack words for how utterly ridiculous that is.

I only clicked because it's a movie I'd never watch anyway.

That has to be the lamest twist they could have come up with.

The sadder part?

I've seen that L&O: SVU episode already.

It's not even ORIGINAL.

Ooo, ooo, was that the one where Eliot's new partner trounced the boyfriend at the end and he was all, "No, wait, she's thirty!" or whatever? Because I think I've seen that one.

That one too, but no, I was thinking about the one with the 'teenager' who claimed rape and then it turned out she was actually intentionally seducing older guys because of her daddy issue from that time she actually WAS raped and smothered her infant while at a halfway house. And then she was getting herself adopted out and abandoning the adopted familes just after high school graduation and they figured it out because one of her former boyfriends saw her on TV and had the yearbook from when she'd graduated ten years before.

And then they got her on statutory rape charges for her 16 year old boyfriend when she was actually in her thirties until she gave up her dad for the ORIGINAL rape that started all the crazy.

SVU: Because if it's quarter til, the real twist hasn't shown up yet.

The L&O ep was probably based on the guy in... I want to say Arizona? New Mexico? Adult enrolled in junior high, who was also fooling the pedophile was living with into thinking he was a teenage. BIZARRE story.

I've seen the Silent Witness episode with much the same plot too.

Oh good! Now they've not only offended the adopted families audience (see [livejournal.com profile] jrittenhouse, but now little people as well. Awesome. (Hey, if you're not offending someone with your horror movie, why are you making it?)

Thanks for posting this link. I was curious about the twist ending, but not curious enough to actually go see the movie.

Now you've saved me a Netflix queue spot, and I'll tell Jeff to make sure to rent it on the off week when I don't visit. *g*

Hahahaha!

I wonder if test audiences for the film collapsed in fits of giggles when the twist was revealed?

OH OH OH!

Remember those old Looney Tunes where the midget gangster dresses up like a baby?

Can we make a sequel to The Orphan where someone finds out REALLY EARLY who Esther is, then goes completely Bugs Bunny on her for the rest of the movie?

Bwahahaha! I knew it!

This isn't even original. There's an old Donald Sutherland movie where he plays a man whose daughter dies and he goes overseas to try to recover --- France or Italy, IIRC.

Anyway, while he's there he believes he sees his daughter wearing her favorite red cloak, and I think there were some psychic shenanigns involved as well. He tracks the vision down only to find that instead of his daughter the person in the red cloak is actually a dwarf who's been commiting a series of serial murders through the city, and then he gets stabbed himself.

It;s actually a really creepy movie about grief and madness3, but it's the first thing that came to mind when I saw ads for Orphan. Well, that and The Good Son, the other movie it's shamelessly ripping off.

"Don't Look Now". It's an amazing film, but seriously, seriously creepy.

Whereas, "Orphan" just seems insane.

Didn't the Batman animated series do something similar with that Shirley Temple-ish actress who couldn't age? I think so.
