AfterElton interviewed RTD again. He makes some good points and ... well, fails spectacularly at other points, aaaaand then there's this.

Editor's note: I subsequently had a chance to speak with Davies again at the Television Critics Association tour in Los Angeles on Wednesday evening. Curious if his appearance at Comic-Con, as well as the passage of a little time had softened his point of view about the fan reaction, I asked Davies if he stood by all of his previous statements. He did so emphatically saying he believed the "controversy" over Ianto's death was basically "nine hysterical women."

I'm not even a TW fan and the guy makes my skin crawl.

So much fail in so few words.

IDK, I know that he can do whatever he wants with the characters, but I don't know if just having Jack around is enough to keep me interested in Torchwood now that everyone else I liked is dead.

That wasn't even my favorite act of fail in the entire article, now that I think about it, because there was also this:

Are you saying the gay character should never die because they’re gay? Now that’s offensive. That’s a judgment based on sexuality. It’s horrible to judge someone on their sexuality.

*headsmack*

That said, this comment was entirely worth reading that interview.

That's some interesting missing the point, there.

But LOL for real at the Scooby Doo comment. Priceless. XD

I know, right? He's all, "But look at all these other gay characters I *didn't* kill off in my career!" and even I kinda want to shake 'em and scream, "But you didn't fridge THOSE characters!"

The more I listen to RTD talk, the more I want to clutch Kripke and his wanky-ass scary-as-fuck fandom to my chest. Jesus, at least Kripke seems to LIKE us.

I really don't understand how he thinks keep repeating the fallacy that it's "nine hysterical woman" who are upset about Ianto's death is going to make the net fall out go away?

He's very charming and funny in real life but he's handling this appalling. I'm not involved in any of the campaigns nor do I have any interest in them but they've sent hundreds of pieces of mail to the BBC by now and each time he insults them they just re-double their efforts. The comic con panel wasn't especially pleasant and it was interesting last night at a John Barrowman concert that I was at that the audience reaction to a possible 4th series of Torchwood was muted in the extreme - polite clapping from a handful of people.

He may be a decent writer but I don't have a lot of respect for him.

The best part of that article (or, uh, of the few paragraphs I could stomach) is how RTDickbag apparently "knows the fandom very well".

OBVIOUSLY, right?

He also can't stop talking about what a great writer he is. Like, fuck, RTD, don't throw your shoulder out of its socket patting yourself on the back, okay? *eyeroll*

Urgh, I'm really starting to despise that man. He doesn't have a clue, does he? Way to piss off your entire fanbase there, Russell.

you know, it's kind of funny to watch that man PR himself out of a job. Painfully funny, but still some funny.

I really should stop reading RTD's interviews. I'm approaching the point of hoping that his next project takes a critical drubbing and hemorrhages viewers.

A pity there wasn't a chance before ComicCon for a bunch of people coming to the TW panel to make up shirts proclaiming themselves to be "one of nine hysterical women on the internet."

now I know he's definitely a better writer than Joe Quesada could ever hope to be. But his attitude in this more and more reminds me of hearing any word that comes out of Quesada's mouth in regards to Spider-Man.
