That is so very, very depressing.

And now a meme, borrowed from everybody else.
You know how sometimes people on your friendslist post about stuff going on in their life, and all of a sudden you think "Wait a minute? Since when were they working THERE? Since when were they dating HIM/HER? Since when???" And then you wonder how you could have missed all that seemingly pretty standard information, but somehow you feel too ashamed to ask for clarification because it seems like info you should already know? It happens to all of us sometimes.
Please copy the topics below, erase my answers and put yours in their place, and then post it in your journal! Please elaborate on the questions that would benefit from elaboration. One-Word-Answers seldom help anyone out.
NAME: Jennifer Marie [Annoying Last Name]. I tease my parents because my first name was the most popular girl's name back when I was born and Marie is ... well, Marie, and it's my mom's middle name as well, so they get a lot of, "Did you ever put any effort into coming up with my name? Even a little bit?" Although to be fair, [Annoying Last Name] doesn't work with anything too complicated anyway.
AGE: 32. And I don't look it, so I've never really been the type to worry about my age because it's rare that I tell someone my age and don't hear, "But you look so much younger! I never would have guessed!" Heh.
LOCATION: Currently, and for the majority of my life, Forest City, PA. It's this dinky little town northeast of Scranton. It's not horrible to live here as long as you have a driver's license and can leave occasionally. It's one of those small towns where a lot of the storefronts on Main Street are crumbling or empty. Also, a few years ago they changed the yearly Christmas display on Main Street from a series of lights and garlands that got strung across the streets overhead and looked like something out of It's A Wonderful Life when it snowed, and replaced them with a series of lit wreaths on the telephone poles on one side of the street, which looks lopsided and depressing. Typical.
OCCUPATION: Currently, I'm in training at a call center for a Medicare drug plan. The job I'm supposed to end up doing there is more paperwork than being on the phones, but there was a mix-up somewhere along the way and I've been trying to hammer at people to get it fixed for the past week and a half. It's a nice place, though. Normal hours, decent pay, nice people ... my only quibble right now is that my training group is a little loud and obnoxious at times.
Oh, and then there's that writing thing. I'm working on it, honest. :)
PARTNER: None. And okay, I just realized how long it's been since I've been on a genuine date (DON'T ASK OMG BEFORE WASHINGTON WTF) aaaaand now I'm depressed. There was one guy a friend of my mom's tried to hook me up with one night right after I moved back to Pennsylvania, but I don't consider it a real date because it was more like a "Meet with a group of friends and see if you get along" kind of a thing. He liked me, I didn't really like him that much.
KIDS: Only the furry kind. I'd like one of the human ones, though. I want to be pregnant at least once, but I also want to adopt eventually, too.
BROTHERS/SISTERS: I have one, Bryan, who is pretty much my best friend ever. He's 23, which makes him eight and a half years younger than me. (This was VERY important to me when he was born. Also, that our cousin was born eight days later, not a week later. I stood behind a lot of people and clarified both facts as loudly as possible in my excitable eight-year-old voice.) Bryan is a prime example of how I've come to adore lovable douchebags in my fiction. He's got a different girlfriend every time I see him, I have to keep smacking him upside the head because he's rude and offensive on a lot of subjects, all he does all day is sit in his room and play video games when he's not out getting wasted with his buddies, but at the same time we never ever fight, we make a good tag team, and we know each other inside and out.
PARENTS: I have both! The originals, no less! :)
My mom is ... um, very hard to live with. I keep trying to tell my brother that he'd get along with them a lot better if he moved out, but he's broke and disinclined to move in with me, so he stays. My mom loves golf, animals (she has seven Siamese cats, give or take, at any given time), and she's an obsessively detailed party giver. She has a thing for football movies (not football, just the movies) and disaster flicks, and is a junkie for crime dramas on TV. She's blown her way through every episode of CSI, most of Law and Order, House, NCIS, and a lot of Bones, so I keep trying to throw things her way that I think she might like. Oh, and when she bakes, she BAKES. She makes a few dozen of thirty or so different kinds of cookies at Christmas time, freezes them all, and then a week or so before Christmas she makes up platters of cookies for family and friends.
My dad is why I'm a geek. I blame him for any fangirl tendencies I have, because he's very dorky about the shows he grew up with. I really want to drag him to Dragoncon one of these years because I think he would really get a kick out of it. He called me all excited a while ago because he found out we get the Boomerang channel, which is all old cartoons. He's also a submarine fanatic -- he'll go anywhere if there's a submarine he can visit while he's there -- and he collects submarine movies. And he's a total electronics junkie. You know those dads who are just happy when they have a new toy with lots of buttons to push come Christmas morning? That's my daddy. :)
PETS: I currently have three -- one scruffy Siamese cat who looks like Bucky from "Get Fuzzy" and two chinchillas. The chinchillas are Dexter (named after Dexter Morgan) and Elliot (named after the kid from ET, but not spelled the same for some reason that I can't recall at the moment). The names suit them. Elliot is the friendlier one, and he'll let you pick him up and pet him. Dexter does not want to be held at ALL, but if you give him his space he'll come right up to you. He's also more likely to take dandelion drops and raisins from you than Elliot is, which is why Dexter's rolypoly and Elliot isn't. Dexter's also easier to catch when they both get out, because he tends to explore the apartment while Elliot heads straight for the fridge and hides underneath by the motor.
Otis is the cat. My mother calls him my "foster" cat, as he's still technically hers and therefore she buys the food, the litter, and pays for his vet bills when he needs to go. He's only needed to go once since he's been here, since he had gastroenteritis (all over my spare room one night, EW) and needed almost all of his teeth pulled. Now that he doesn't have a mouthful of rotten teeth and seven other cats picking on him all the time, he's a much friendlier happy cat. Of course, that also means he's more apt to yowling at the top of his lungs at inopportune times, but what are you going to do? He also sleeps with me most nights, and when winter comes around he takes to crawling under my covers and hiding there for the entire night.
LIST THE 3-5 BIGGEST THINGS GOING ON IN YOUR LIFE:
1. My job! Since I was laid off for the majority of this year, it's nice to have a full-time job for a change, especially one that's a day job and requires me to address like an adult rather than in my scruffier clothes so I don't mess them up.
2. My writing! I know I get really paranoid about where it's going a lot of the time and vent here on LJ, but regardless of how much I worry (my anxiety is directly proportional to how well things are going, so if I'm behaving like a fucking lunatic, that's actually a GOOD thing, weirdly enough), I'm honestly in a great place right now.
3. Um ... my car's paid off? That's about it. Ugh, Christmas isn't even a big thing this year for me because I can't afford to spend a lot for everybody this go-around and I don't own any decorations anyway. (I'm also not a big fan of Christmas music, Christmas sales, Christmas lights or anything remotely religious about the holiday. I don't hate Christmas, I just hate that apparently Christmas is two months long.)
WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR CLOSEST FRIENDS?
My brother
My friend, Jessie, who I don't get to see a lot of now that we've both been laid off. She likes SPN (yay!) and Twilight (HA-HA!), and she's the one responsible for dragging me to bars and getting me out of my house. She's been slacking of late. AHEM.
Through Jessie, I've met Jessica, Megan, my big gay boyfriend Paul, HIS big gay boyfriend Tom, Glenn, Jessie's brother Jamie, and a bunch of other people.
My agent-shaped person, who puts up with my shit and wields the Bat of Where Are My Chapters?!
And all of YOU! Don't make me pick favorites, damn it, I suck at it.
