If there's one thing trying to talk my great-aunt and great-uncle through filing their unemployment over the phone teaches me, it's that I would make an absolutely terrible teacher.

No patience whatsoever, me.

Seriously! My mom calls me every time she updates her ipod for me to walk her through it. My patience is limited on the phone.

I once asked my former girlfriend if she felt she could be a good counselor, because she's survived a lot of difficult things that people get counseling for so she might be more empathetic to them. She said "No, I'd just want to slap them and say 'Deal with it.'" She knows that's not her skill set.

Maybe it's no patience with older relatives.

Maybe you'd be fine teaching younger people who don't have all the family baggage?

Well... ya know, there's two people in that teacher/learner relationship. And as much as I hate to admit it...

... some people are terrible learners.

You could have the patience of a glacier, and it wouldn't make any difference.

Oh, lord, yes. Sometimes they just don't listen or refuse to even try to remember what you've shown them or how they did something, because it's hard and they won't possibly understand it on their own. Gah!

Sometimes it goes faster and easier when you can see them and point at the relevent parts of the form.

Hey, I'm a trainer by profession and it strains my patience. Being a good teacher/trainer doesn't necessarily mean you have more patience; it just means you are really good at concealing the fact that you want to slap someone silly. :-)
