apocalypsosIt's the morning after and I still want to draw massive amounts of sparkly pink hearts around the Big Damn Show.
-- I still think Chuck is God, not Jesus, although it's an interesting theory, too. For all of the "Mistress Magda" stuff and Dean's "virgin/whore" comment, Chuck is still Kripke's unapologetic self-insert, so making himself Jesus rather than God? Eh, probably not.
-- I may be the only one who would have been almost perfectly happy if the show really HAD ended with Dean at Lisa's house, with no Sam out standing by the light or -- if my guess is correct -- if this had really been the end Sam would have walked up to the front door and knocked. (My only problem is that I don't think we got enough of Lisa before Dean latched onto her and started forming his white-picket-fence daydreams around her. That said, I think she came into his life again at the perfect time and under the perfect circumstances for HIM to latch on, I feel -- he'd known her before we did, even if it was only for a weekend; he thought quite rightly that there was a possibility Ben was his; he saved her kid's life when he still hasn't sure that wasn't the case and therefore got to feel fatherly fear for his well-being; he left her and Ben right about the time he started to see the appeal of Sam's apple-pie dream life. It was a perfect storm of wanting.)
-- I really do feel like Castiel may have been working with God from the very beginning. It also gives his pained look when opening the door to the panic room for Sam to leave a new dimension - if he was being a double-agent for the Lord, it's gotta suck if God says, "You're going to hate this, but I need you to do something for me ..."
-- I don't think Sam is Lucifer in that last scene. I don't think he's completely Sam anymore (Dean had a point about his forty years not even being remotely as bad as any amount of time spent in the cage with Lucifer on the brain), but I don't buy that they're going to haul Lucifer's ass out of his cage for another season. I think we're going to end up with the season where Sam and Dean broke up and went their separate ways and Sam started dating all these girls who were dangerous and mean and they fought a lot, and Dean went off and dated a nice girl and mowed lawns and coached Little League, and then somewhere along the line they ran into one another again and argued and fought aaaaand then they had makeup sex and got remarried. Just like a Jennifer Aniston movie!
-- They gave me what I wanted and killed almost everybody off. That was more than a little awesome. :D (Granted, they took it back which doesn't surprise me, but still.)
-- Jared did REALLY well last night.
-- The way it ended really did fall quite nicely into Castiel's "Peace or freedom?" query. At the most basic level, Dean wanted peace, and got it. Sam wanted freedom, and got it.
-- I did love Michael and Lucifer's argument in the cemetery, partly because it made me feel better about the fact that we didn't get Dean!Michael. (Also, the fact that Dean had to either save Sam or, in essence, kill him by helping Sam with his plan. Oh, I wonder where I've heard the "Save him or kill him" choice before ...) Michael's speech was SO reminiscent of Dean that if Dean!Michael had to be the one to deliver it, I'm not sure the emotional impact would have been there. I mean, hell, I love it when Sam and Dean have the usual family squabble, but it was really interesting to see it this way, because you could easily slot Dean into Adam's role during Michael's speech, and while everything he said may have once been true about Dean's feelings on Sam leaving, and parts of that may still be, they've both gotten through so many things in the past five seasons that by the time this finale rolled around Dean's realized, "Fuck it, I just love my brother a really, really lot."

telaryn just made a comment about the Chuck/amulet situation which makes a good point - that Cas and Chuck were never in a scene together during the time in which Cas had the amulet in his care. We don't know if there may have been more to the process than "Wave it at God and it turns into a nightlight" - maybe there was a chant involved, or a spell or more Enochian symbols or whatever - but if Cas wasn't pulling a long con with God and perhaps didn't even know that Chuck WAS God, it's a good explanation for why he would have the amulet and be using it to look for God and not find anything.
-- Why do I have a feeling next season might involve a time jump? Because that would be kind of awesome, I think, and they didn't bother to get the kid who played Ben back, and because if you think Dean is heartbroken now, wait until you see his woobie face when Sam turns out to have been alive for years and hiding out on him! \o/
-- FIIIIC. I want to write some. Now it's just a matter of finding the time. :D

Well, Jensen gave an interview to a brazilian reporter where he mentioned a time jump for season 6. At first, I thought he was just speculating but now I'm not so sure. I'm gonna try to translate it to English this weekend. Let's see how it goes.
