Just got back from seeing "Hidalgo". Uh, Viggo's not going to make a habit of featuring equestrian romantic entanglements in every movie, is he? And this time, it was with an actual horse, not a tall, gangly actress with "coltish" legs who vaguely resembles a horse in the right light and will follow up her film success by marrying some alternative rock singer. Viggo ends up with chicks like that a lot in movies.

It wasn't like he wasn't dropping hints that he was into horses when he was Aragorn. Personally, I'd like to think that if I was lying unconscious on a river bank and my horse wanted to wake me up, he wouldn't start nibbling at my lower lip in that oh-so-seductive manner he knows I like. In fact, my hypothetical horse should never have an intimate knowledge of my kissing preferences. And yet, Aragorn. Yeah.

Anyway, "Hidalgo". Ah, the love between a boy and his horse. I can pretty much assure you that any scene featuring Frank and Hidalgo sharing screen time could have had its soundtrack replaced with any random drippy Celine Dion or Sarah McLachlan song and not have suffered in the least for it. The best was when the Arabian princess/love interest showed up, and all I could think was, "Oh, this relationship can never be. Frank is a horsemasexual."

I'm amazed my ticket didn't come with an itty bitty Frank/Hidalgo slash story printed on the back of it.

I live in South Dakota, where this film is being treated as "The Passion of Hidalgo" and every breathing South Dakotan is required to go, lest they go to Hell. Or Nebraska. (Whichever is closest.)

I know people who are firmly convinced that Nebraska just doesn't exist, because no one knows anyone from Nebraska. ^_^

Too true. I only visited twice when some friends and I were having a gaming campaign-meet there. I did get a KU Jayhawks shotglass, though. I make it a point of getting shotglasses from every state I visit.

Itty Bitty Frank/Hidalgo:

Eww. You lumped songs by Celine Deion & Sarah McLachlan together. :( the stinging... other than being a female singer, I've never considered that Sarah is anything like the dreaded Celine (ewww). Obviously, mileages vary a lot. :) (life would be a waste if we all had the same taste)
About Viggo: It is probably common knowledge by now, but he actually purchased the main horse that he rides in Hidalgo. I guess that's love. :)
I'm looking forward to seeing Hidalgo, but I do hope that VM's next film is non-horse-related.
FWIW, I recently heard that the producers of the next Batman flick are talking to VM about playing one of the villains. I just don't want to see him in a silly comics costume.

RE: Frank/Hidalgo slash - best review of a movie EVAR.

I saw it yesterday with three other Viggo fans; we walked out with moony faces and tears in our eyes at the ending. I would probably see it again just for the Viggo pretty, but after that it's straight to DVD.
