Queen Elizabeth Honors 9/11 Victims. What Took So Long?

This article was posted on Jezebel yesterday. As in, the day before today. As in, the day before the fifth anniversary of the 7/7 attacks.

This is why people think Americans are assholes, Sadie Stein. Jesus jitterbugging Christ.

(Oh, no, I think this may be my favorite offensively self-centered part: It seems a shame for the Queen to leave New York without eating a cupcake, seeing the velvet ropes of the Meatpacking District Clubs, posing with the Naked Cowboy, inspecting the Blue Man Group or otherwise appreciating the wonders of modern NYC. Fuck, *Americans* don't even do that shit when they go to New York. But ... but cupcakes!)

People are idiots.

That being said, Her Majesty totally should have gotten someone to pick her up something from Magnolia bakery. I'm partial to their red velvet cupcakes.

PS. I friended you write awesome fic, and I like reading your everyday posts, too.

and you just know the representatives of HRM wouldn't be standing in line, either, so it's not like there's an excuse...;)

Magnolia Bakery is terrible and the idea that it is not should not be perpetuated, dammit.

Crumbs, people. CRUMBS.

I don't want to join in a dog-pile here, it's just funny because not two weeks ago I got a red velvet cupcake from Magnolia as a little thank you gift. Have to say, I was severely, severely underwhelmed.

I thought the bit about tourist attractions totally had to be a lead-in to going "AHAHA, wind-up, gotcha" but no.

This is still probably my favourite comment of the lot, and she's getting quite the pasting.

mm yes, lets count all the times American presidents have visited the scenes of recent tragedies in other countries.... And has President Obama even made an official tribute there?

One of the few articles where reading the comments lowers your blood pressure...

Trufax: the day after QEII was at the Forks in Winnipeg, a dead body was found.

I'm not sure if that's better or worse than the last time she was here and we stranded her in a water taxi on the same river (oh god, my town has the worst luck with her visits... well, Toronto did have that major power outage, so maybe not.)

What is this obsession with 9/11 some Americans have? The other day, a NuWho fan took exception because in the 5 years the show's been running, The Doctor's never once made reference to it.

I don't expect anyone from another country to care about 9/11 the mostest. I'm Israeli-born, so believe me, I know that other places have their own problems, terrorist and otherwise.

But you know what? Thinking too hard about the details of 9/11 still makes me sick to my stomach. Trying to think of what things would be like if 9/11 had never happened is a mind-bogglingly huge act of imagination, even only 9 years later. Here, it really did change the course of the nation. I don't expect anyone abroad to take it so seriously, but some of us clearly have a hard time remembering that the U.S. isn't actually the center of everyone's universe. :P

Man, Jezebel is so good when writing about some subjects and...so not in other areas. Same goes for the Jezzies, though the subject areas aren't precisely the same, as this article amply demonstrates.

I've stopped reading Jezebel like I used to. I'm not sure if it's just me, but they seem to have gotten really judgey and defensive lately. I don't know.
