This is the conversation I had earlier with Progressive, who I should mention have already clarified that this falls under my deductible. (Hi, I work in insurance, I knew that.)

Rep: "We're going to send someone to your mechanic to assess the damage, and they should arrive in the next 24-48 hours, so you should tell your mechanic to hold off on repairing the car until they arrive."
Me: "... yeah, I kind of need the car tonight, and he's reliable enough to get the car fixed today."
Rep: "Well, see, that could be a problem --"
Me: "..."

Oh, no, you guys! If they don't assess the damage on the car they might not not give me any fucking money to pay for it.

::snort:: This reminds of back in the day when my secondary health insurance was paying for the IVF, but my primary insurance had to refuse every single goddamn claim before my secondary insurance would look at it. So I actually had to call my primary insurance and beg them to just refuse claims already.

I knew they were going to refuse to pay, they knew they were going to refuse to pay, scientists in the frigging Antarctic probably knew they were going to refuse to pay, but they had to sit on claims for MONTHS. It made me crazy.

Ugh, insurance. I have enough problems as is having to deal with people having problems with the companies we take calls for without this, honestly. And seriously, what are they going to do, not attribute it towards my deductible? I guess I'll just worry about that the next time I have an accident -- oh, right, I'm still in my deductible because I haven't had an accident since 2003.

Via friends of friends of friends--sorry for butting in! Former insurance agent here--there is a slight chance they'd accept high-quality "four corners" photos with a good close-up of the damaged area. It doesn't hurt to ask!

So Progressive doesn't have a claims office you could take it to? I know they have the adjusters that come to you, but they usually have an office as well. Or preferred shops you could take it to for an estimate just so it's all on record.
