The first was when Bryan and I were walking from the American History museum to the Lincoln Memorial. We were crossing the lawn by the Washington Monument when we saw two helicopters approaching. "Hey, those are flying low," I said, before almost immediately blurting out, "Oh, holy crap, that's the president's helicopter!"
Both of them flew over to the White House and then diverged and flew in opposite directions, and the two of us were trying to figure out what the hell was going on when another helicopter flew overhead, flying low enough to be heading straight for the back lawn of the White House.
Naturally, we -- and everybody in the near vicinity -- started jogging towards the White House.
When we got closer, you could see the press corps in the back by the steps if you squinted. It was pretty apparent that we were never going to see him, but we figured it couldn't hurt. And we just sort of hung out down by the street for a few minutes watching the camera flashes going off before we finally headed back off toward the Lincoln Memorial.
Then, a little while later after we arrived at the Lincoln Memorial and settled down to rest from the long walk, we saw a guy propose to his girlfriend to the cheers of the surrounding crowd. Aaaand then a few minutes later a bride and groom in full wedding dress came down the steps next to us and got their pictures taken there. That was both weird and awesome all at once.
