If you could only read three fanfics for the rest of your days, which three would you pick?

While the first two would probably depend on my current mood, my current favorite kink, and my current fandom, the third would always and ever be torch's Jailbait Street. As far as I'm concerned, this fic is utterly flawless--perfect narration, perfect characterization, perfect realism, perfect sex scene.

For a visual image, the pairing in the store is the pairing in my icon.

OMG. *bibbles in the corner* My, I'm glad I followed that link. I usually don't read popslash, but that's just hot.

1. Thebes (http://secrets-and-lies.com/stories/thebes.html), by [livejournal.com profile] lexcorp_hope (AU historical slash).

3. A Piece of the Action (http://teland.com/piece.html), by [livejournal.com profile] thete1 (hot slash porn).

The BEST. FANFIC. EVER. (Mostly LotR, with many crossovers. It's a Mary Sue parody.)
Of a Sort by [livejournal.com profile] fernwithy (Harry Potter genfic.)
Araminta Malfoy Potter: Taking Hogwarts by Storm (Harry Potter Mary Sue parody.)

Dayyyum... um...

Blood Magic. Severitus fic, but very, very good... and long... and ongoing.

Realizations. An AU summer-after-fourth-year, started before Book 5 came out.

Laocoon's Children. But... I really want all the rest of the "Stealing Harry" stories to go with that one... if you think about it, they're all part of the same fic, really! And you probably know from them, anyway...

Based partly on the length. Of the stories. Because they keep me satisfied. Longer.

Identity by Lanning (SV, Clex)

"Inuyasha":
The Hero in the 21st Century by Kristine Batey
Because it takes the stark story outlines of its source material and fills them out with a lush, moving, multidimensional, bittersweet postmodern epic that makes me fall in love with both stories again and with fanfiction as a literary genre a thousand times over. And because it is soooo far from being finished and soooo long anyway and soooo slow in putting out new chapters, it will LAST me for the rest of my days. AHA HA HA HA HA!

"Xena: Warrior Princess":
Dogs in Clover by [livejournal.com profile] beatgeek
Dharma Bum is my favorite fanfiction writer, period. And this? It's a "Xena" sitcom! With Special Guest Star Ray Romano! As Genghis Khan!

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer":
Achilles Heel by Elizabeth
I have a copyedited version of this story saved with the grammatical and formatting errors fixed so that it can indeed be The World's Most Perfect (And Eerily Prescient) Spike/Buffy Story. It also contains my favorite written description of a love scene. Couched in the language of after, *happy siiiiigh*.

Oh, I adore "Hero in the 21st Century." Have you by any chance read "The Lucky Ones" by Terri Botta?

Yes, I've read "The Lucky Ones". And yaaaay, another Hero21 fan! I'm pretty new to "Inuyasha" fandom, so I still run around squeaking at people "you MUST read Hero21!" and then squeaking happily when I found out they already have, 'cause it's a pretty well-known story!

Because it really is the damn show. It's as spot on in structure and pace as it is in dialogue and characterisation.

Glossing
The Book of Daniel (http://www.geocities.com/glossolalia_01/daniel.html) Giles/Oz
The words in this just trip me out. Plus, it's an actual book.

Moonlettuce
Oxygen (http://www.livejournal.com/users/moonlettuce/119509.html)
Wes/Giles
Guh, hot.

But that is just this week. Tomorrow, who knows?

Er, the ONLY thing I've read in the last six months that counts as fanfic is [livejournal.com profile] shoebox_project, and I could read it until I knew it word for word, because it's hysterically funny, very sweet, and maintains exactly the right levels of tension throughout.

Hmm...either Heyoka or Climb the Wind, by Minisinoo. Or maybe Accidental Interception of Fate. Okay, fine. Heyoka. Even if it'll never be finished. *sobs*

Uh, can I pick everything that notmanos has ever written? Since all the stories are chronological? Okay, that'll be number 2.

And for number 3...Zero Plus One, by Azurine.

Date: 2004-08-02 03:09 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] khakigrrl.livejournal.com
Notmanos counts as 1? Ok, then. She's my #4. I'm always checking for new parts to be posted.

P.S. Have you read her Swordfish 2 fic? It's much better than the original movie.

Date: 2004-08-02 05:13 pm (UTC)

See Spot Run is better than that movie, but I did like the fic. :)

Only three? But that's... cruel!

1. "The Arrangement" series by Maldoror.

2. "Glass Houses" by [livejournal.com profile] viridian5, still a WIP.

3. "Denial" by [livejournal.com profile] scribblemoose.

Inuyasha--"The Lucky Ones" by [livejournal.com profile] isilwath

The Lord of the Rings, it would be "The Mellon Chronicles" by Cassia and Siobhan.

Harry Potter--"Faith" by [livejournal.com profile] dragongirl16

Mercy by [livejournal.com profile] koimistress, because it's possibly my favourite ever and it keeps getting more interesting every time I read it.

The Reader by Aja, because it kicks ass and has good poetry in it.

And... I don't know. Something really, really long?

Date: 2004-08-02 03:06 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] khakigrrl.livejournal.com
Oooh, interesting.

I'd have to say:

X-Men:
Jus Ad Bellum by [livejournal.com profile] seperis (But that would have to include the not-completely-betaed appendix I begged off of her. Need the closure.)

Farscape:
Child of the Night by KernilCrash (the director's cut)
Unrealized Peacekeeper by [livejournal.com profile] oneeyethedrd (as long as I got the new parts, too)

I like the long ones, if ya couldn't tell. ;-)

1. Cassie Claire's Draco Trilogy. Come on, for the one-liners alone it'd be worth it. That one line? About the conversation already having had more disturbing twists than Snape doing the rhumba? *giggles madly*

2. This not-yet-fit-for-public-consumption Snapefic my sister's writing, because it's over 55,000 words strong so far with no discernible plot, and may very well go on forever.

3. Super Food World. (http://www.valerielewis.net/buggered/food1.html) Totally.

And 3.5 is Joss Whedon's Pride and Prejudice. (http://www.lifeamgood.com/01aprbuffy.html)

And an honorable mention for Bagenders, as noted in a comment above.
