i so hope you are wrong and the lotr completest-set-ever-before-the-next-one will not come out 2004. i think they want to cash in on the extended-version-part-3 first and kill us with the boxset in 2005?

Date: 2004-05-23 06:32 am (UTC)I also noticed that with the other two, the first versions were released in August, and the EE released in November, which hints that they might be planning a nice little box set for Christmas. (Of course, that's not taing into account what they'll do to us next year ... maybe box sets with the LOTR actor clone of your choice? I could get behind that one.)
*rolls eyes* No, I'm not a DVD nerd.

Date: 2004-05-23 09:25 am (UTC)PJ has finished editing the EE of ROTK -- he wanted it out of the way early, because now he's busy with King Kong. However, just because the scenes are in the right order doesn't mean that they're finished. The FX teams have to do their thing (especially if there happen to be any new scenes involving Gollum or Oliphaunts or something), Howard Shore has to score the new scenes (probably about 10-20 minutes' worth were already scored, or at least partially scored, because they were cut so late, but that still leaves half an hour of film music to write, record, and edit), and they have to go and find the actors, all over the world, to make the documentaries for discs 3 and 4. Usually they just coralled them during off time on the pickup shoots in the summers, but there aren't any of those now so the actors have to be chased down.
Anyway, the point is, with all the things that still have to be done to finish the extended cut of the movie, not to mention all the commentary tracks and the two entire discs of special features, they can't get it released before November.
