Jesus, everywhere I turn my head on LJ anymore, the September 11th "Pentagon missile" theory keeps popping up. Did I miss something? Did all of the conspiracy theorists get together and decide to get this all over the place this week? And if so, why the hell didn't I get my memo?

(That's not to say I believe it, even though it makes you wonder. It'd actually be really nice if any of the Pentagon missile theory stuff could tell me where the fucking missing plane went.)

Although it doens't explain why the lawn wasn't damaged. Or where the plane went. Or why cars on I-395 didn't go flying into things. Or why the other cameras that had the plane on film were confiscated and never released.

The CNN pictures snopes links to look to me like the plane hit the ground just short of the Pentagon, so most of the lawn and any cars on nearby roads would remain intact. (Snopes also points out the lawn was quickly covered in gravel to make it easier for rescue vehicles to get in and out.) Wreckage from the plane can also be seen in some pictures.

that flash site makes some pretty scary points (as do most decent conspiracy theories) but the one question it never asks.. is If it was a missile as they think it is. Who launched it, from where? and why?

I haven't seen it on LJ, but that conspiracy theory is both sickening and ridiculous. I wonder if any of us in D.C. -- you know, the ones who actually drove past the Pentagon and saw the damage -- believe in it, or if it's just midwestern and foreign wackos?

I always wonder that too. Maybe the gummint blew it up? After all, if they killed a bunch of people in the Pentagon, what's a few dozen more?

A plane hit the pentagon. And everyone was lucky it did, and didn't miss and take out all of Pentagon City.

Oh, please. First of, all, as you said, where did the missing plane go? Not to mention all the people inside the plane. Second, all those eyewitness reports about how it "sounded like a missle"? How many Americans, who live in a country that hasn't really hosted a two-sided war since what- 1812? really know what a missle sounds like? Admittedly, I only know the sound of things going boom when I drive by Gaza, but even that makes me more of an expert than those witnesses are likely to be.

How many Americans know what a plane crash sounds like, period? And everyone knows eyewitnesses are extremely unreliable. With the right suggestions, people can easily leap to conclusions.

And that BS about an airplane not being able to punch through a steel-reinforced conrete wall was just that- BS. Who says an 80-ton plane going over 500 mph (and I got that info from the video) can't do that? Who says that a missle can? Give me physics, give me numbers, something.

Finally, the FBI was perfectly right to confiscate all those tapes. They're part of a criminal investigation, and probably fall under even stricter military jurisdiction as well. That isn't a conspiracy.
