Date: 2004-12-09 09:30 am (UTC)I got on the phone, like, no fucking WAY, and made it all the way up to one of the VPs or whatever who apologized and removed the fee b/c there was no prior notice that a fee would be charged.
It was a hassle, but I got my $30.

Date: 2004-12-10 11:40 am (UTC)You don't have to be a member/armed forces to use the bank (you do if you want to use their insurance, but the bank is available to anyone). Many people here at my office use it as well. My parents and all my siblings do, as well.
They only have two physical banks in the U.S. (the main one's in San Antonio, and I don't remember where the other is right now), but you can use any bank's atm and then get the surcharge rebated on your next statement.
If you use your cash/check/debit card as a credit card when you shop, you get ck and cash card rebates. While the percentage is small, it does add up. I've earned almost $40 that way this year!
You can have your statements delivered electronically (PDF) and transfer money and pay your bills online (for free).
I pay NO fees. Let me say that again: I pay NO fees. I imagine I would have to pay an overdraft fee if that ever happened, but I have overdraft protection set up to go straight to my credit card.
I have direct deposit set up for all my recurring deposits - and they provide postage paid envelopes for depositing all other monies. That's the only inconvenience, really, that you don't have a local branch where you can immediately deposit money.
I cannot recommend them highly enough - I've been banking with them since I left for college (ugh, over 10 years now), and I've never had a bad experience.
