You know, if there's one thing I like about living in a metropolitan area like this, it's the easy access to different kinds of food I wouldn't be able to get in rural Pennsylvania. Today I had Malaysian ... at least, mall-food-court Malaysian, which just seemed to be shrimp stir-fry. But it wasn't half-bad, which is a big compliment coming from me considering I've never been a big stir-fry fan. (I've still got tons of stuff I still haven't tried, like Greek and Indian and Korean and stuff. I should make a list or something. :))

Also, it's officially the part of the Amazing Race that I reach every season where I contemplate who I could ask to sign up with me for the next round of applications. *sigh* I really wish my brother were old enough. He'd go on TAR with me in a heartbeat.

Greek food is great, and nothing beat the kabobs at the middle-eastern joint I used to frequent around Dupont Circle in D.C. There was a mall-court greek place in the Ronald Reagan building that had the most amazing dolma (stuffed grape leaves). Nothing wrong with the mall-court places. A lot of them end up being ma-n-pop stores.

You've never had Indian food? Get yourself some Indian! It's some of my favorite food.

You're in the DC area, right? Plenty of good Indian food there. I used to eat at a place called Taj Mahal in Dupont Circle. And there was another great Indian place in Adams Morgan.

Damn! Now I'm craving Indian food...

Hee. Nope, never had Indian food. I swear, I'm going to get a map and just start crossing out countries as I sample their lovely cuisine. :)

Indian food is amazing. Mmm, chilli. I'm kinda surprised you've never had it - not even the weird yellow stuff with raisins in you get in canteens? (Mind you, that's probably about as Indian as I am. And I'm... well, I'm not Indian.)

I like peshwari nan... The one with almond and raisins. Hungry now. Craving onion Bhajis.

If I weren't already going for Thai with my roommate, I'd have to change my plans.

I *think* maybe you said before but I forget...
Where in DC do you live?
I second the Adams Morgan area for great ethnic-type food, and also right near me (I live 5 min. from the Court House Metro) there is a great Thai place called Sawatadee (sp?). And in Clarendon there is a relatively new Indian Restaurant right near the Metro called Delhi Club. V. good.
My friends and I like to sample new cuisines around here b/c there are so many!

I had tamarind shrimp (because I'll eat anything seafood and I figured I'd play it safe just in case) but I may try something else tomorrow 'cause I really liked that. (And you know, when I was walking through the food court and noticed they had a new Malaysian place, I thought about you. :))

UDANG ASAM JAWA! Heh.

I was in a hotel here some time back and me and my sister were giggling about how they were superelaborating on the Malaysian dishes they had..."Rice cooked in coconut milk with fried anchovies and peanuts and slices of cucumber" - NASI LEMAK! and so on. XD

I'm trying to convince my best buddy that he and I would make a good team. We're both seasoned travellers, and between us speak several languages, and can play the bitch card at a moment's notice.

I know I would have a blast with my brother as my team member, but you have to be 21, alas. I'd do it with my dad, but I'm not sure we would be as much fun to watch as me and my mom, 'cause our arguing would be vastly more amusing to watch. ;)

My friends and I have plans to spend the coming year eating our way across DC. I'm very excited about this prospect.

Someone above mentioned checking out Adams Morgan for ethnic food; while you're there, go to Meskerem for Ethiopian. It's tasty, and you get to EAT WITH YOUR HANDS!!!! (obviously, am easily amused :) )
