[livejournal.com profile] mike_smith pointed out this annoying tidbit from the "Can't Miss" section on MSNBC.com.

I can't say I know much about the plot for "Batman Begins," but I am impressed by the cast. It stars Christian Bale as the Caped Crusader, with Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson, Gary Oldman and Rutger Hauer along for the ride. But the one to watch out for is Katie Holmes, because she's currently carrying on an extremely high profile romance in real life with Tom Cruise and, judging by the now infamous "Oprah" display, she could either attract multitudes into theaters or repel multitudes from them. And when producers get their answer, Katie will either have a much larger part in the next sequel, or no part at all. Holy unexpected casting dilemma, Batman! (Warner Brothers, opens Wednesday)

...

One person a day, right? That's how many people I'm legally allowed to whack upside the head with a two-by-four, right? So I can beat this writer up and nobody will care or arrest me or anything? I'm just checking, see ...

This message brought to you by someone who's dying to see the movie and probably won't get to until next weekend. *whimper*

According to the Washington Post, her part is short and negligible. THANK CHRIST.

She's the girl, for Christ's sake. And any moron knows that unless you're wearing a catsuit and kicking Batman's ass, possession of a vagina is nine-tenths of the reason you won't be in more than one Batman movie. (The other tenth of a reason being that the guy playing Batman usually doesn't make it into more than one Batman movie. Sheesh.)

1) I wouldn't be so sure that Katie's still in posession of her vagina now that the Tominator has gotten her a Scientologist "minder."

b: That means in Hollywood/Batman terms, Michael Keaton is a LONG-TIMER. :P

Yeah, is that minder thing goddamn creepy, or what? "This is my best friend, even though she was assigned to me six weeks ago."

She, in my mind, no matter how many parts she plays, will always be whining, annoying Joey from Dawson's Creek. Range she has not.

I saw a screening of the movie on Monday. It rocked. Rocked in a "I just trashed my hotel room, slept with fifteen girls while doing coke on their thighs, threw my tv through the window, crashed my Ferrari and I don't even *care*" kind of way.

Katie Holmes isn't in there much. But she is ridiculously annoying when she smiles...it's this weird tilting up of one side of her mouth. And there's no way in hell she'd be keeping Christian Bale for long, no matter what fantasy world they inhabit. But I don't think it's Katie Holmes that's going to make or break this movie. In fact, I don't think this movie is going to break at all. It's just that GD good.

Really, I could care LESS about Katie Holmes. I'm seeing it for the BATMAN. Not Christian Bale, but the CHARACTER. Call me a geek but I loved the tv show and comic when I was a kid.

Would it be particularly bad if more than one person used their 'whacking upside the head with a two-by-four' right to take out the writer?

I don't even like the fact that Katie Holmes' character is in the movie (hello Mary Sue), let alone that people somehow think she'd be a drawing point. It's Batman.

Eh, the Tom/Katie thing will probably wreck War of the Worlds, not Batman. And it it DOES... *growls* I will kill. Violently...

I'm going to see Batman for two (well, okay, three) things - Batman, Christian Bale's Abs, and Gary Oldman Looking Exactly Like Jim Gordon In Batman: Year One Holy Christ They Brought A Drawing To Life WTF.

Notice the distinct lack of that chick from Dawson's Creek in that list. All she's doing is really, really making me want to go buy one of those Free Katie! t-shirts, because dude... seriously. I've never seen someone get brainwashed so FAST.

Add Cillian Murphy's Cheekbones, Morgan Freeman's Massive Cool, and "OMG Michael Caine's Playing Alfred *squeeeeees*!" to that list, and those look exactly like my reasons. ;)

Those are all factors too, of course! I just pointed out my big two (well, okay, three) ones. :D

Hm. I should go make Gary Oldman icons.

Christian Bale. Cillian Murphy doing his "...the BAT MAN..." drawl. These are all the things I need for this movie.

Eh. Katie was decent in that indie film she was in a few years back, but since then she's dropped off the radar so much that I have no idea what her range actually is. She is certainly not a maker or breaker for me.

Worry not, she's not in the movie nearly enough to ruin it. And honestly, her character's annoyingness is due at least as much to the writing as to the fact that she's a limited actress who was miscast. Why is it that the superhero's girlfriend sometimes seems to exist only to scold? Bleh.

But the movie itself? Quite good. The supporting players (minus Holmes) were just great, especially Gary Oldman. There's just no way she's going to make or break this movie's box office. It's Batman, for heaven's sake.

Add me to the list of fans. I might even pay to see it next time. It should rock on IMAX.
