[livejournal.com profile] mike_smith pointed out this annoying tidbit from the "Can't Miss" section on MSNBC.com.

I can't say I know much about the plot for "Batman Begins," but I am impressed by the cast. It stars Christian Bale as the Caped Crusader, with Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson, Gary Oldman and Rutger Hauer along for the ride. But the one to watch out for is Katie Holmes, because she's currently carrying on an extremely high profile romance in real life with Tom Cruise and, judging by the now infamous "Oprah" display, she could either attract multitudes into theaters or repel multitudes from them. And when producers get their answer, Katie will either have a much larger part in the next sequel, or no part at all. Holy unexpected casting dilemma, Batman! (Warner Brothers, opens Wednesday)

One person a day, right? That's how many people I'm legally allowed to whack upside the head with a two-by-four, right? So I can beat this writer up and nobody will care or arrest me or anything? I'm just checking, see ...

This message brought to you by someone who's dying to see the movie and probably won't get to until next weekend. *whimper*

Worry not, she's not in the movie nearly enough to ruin it. And honestly, her character's annoyingness is due at least as much to the writing as to the fact that she's a limited actress who was miscast. Why is it that the superhero's girlfriend sometimes seems to exist only to scold? Bleh.

But the movie itself? Quite good. The supporting players (minus Holmes) were just great, especially Gary Oldman. There's just no way she's going to make or break this movie's box office. It's Batman, for heaven's sake.
