So I just got back from a day in DC with Mom and Dad.

First, the important news -- I HAVE MAPLE NUT LOGS. I REPEAT ... I HAVE ACHIEVED MAPLE NUT LOGS. My mom surprised me when I showed up at the hotel with a box of my favoritest cookies on the planet. Seriously, I would choke puppies to get these cookies. They taste like pancakes, for crying out loud. Pancakes with crushed walnuts drizzled on top. They're awesome. And this? Is a huge box of cookies. It should take me ... oh, hours to finish it. Mmm-hmm.

In other news, on the way to the zoo, we all got to talking about Batman Begins, and they were telling me how great they thought it was, and then they started talking about possible sequels and who should play who and my dad said, "You know who should play the Joker? Steve Buscemi." I literally had to stop walking because ... OMGYES. If it would get a guy like Steve Buscemi into a Batman movie ... yes, let's do that. *nods enthusiastically*

Oh, and then there was this lovely exchange ...

Dad: (To me) "When did you get so short?"
Me: "Don't look at me. That's your gene pool, pal."
Mom: "You know what your cousin Laurie says is the reason she's short?"
Me: "Do I want to know?"
Mom: "She says it's because her father has a small ... you know."
Dad: ...
Me: ...
Mom: *realizes what she said*
Mom: (To Dad) "... well, your son is tall."
Dad: *sarcastically* Nice save, honey."
My brain cells: *commit suicide by the thousands*

Then we went to the zoo, which ... well, you have to understand my mom. Going to the zoo with my mother is like trying to wrangle Boo from Monsters Inc. -- you think she's all cute and happy, and then suddenly she squeals "Kitty!" and bounds off into the crowd with her arms flailing in the air. (See, you think I'm exaggerating with that arm-flailing description, don't you?) So it was basically four straight hours of spazz-wrangling. It was a cool visit, though, especially when the orangutans decided to scale the towers in their enclosures and swing across the park on the ropes hanging from them. That's always neat. :)

Then we went down to Old Town, where they're having a waterfront festival, and we ate dinner at a great sports bar so that my mom could watch the US Open. (You wouldn't think anybody could get golf withdrawal, and yet, I present to you my mom.) This sport bar, though, was a perfect example of why sports bars are my favorite places to eat. They're loud, they're boisterous, there's fifteen different TVs showing five different sports games, everybody's laidback, and you can just settle in with a beer and a pizza and watch a game. (My dad and I were getting into the fact that two of the TVs near us were showing the Cubs/Yankees game and the OSU/Tulane game, and the college game was infinitely more fun to watch.)

And then we wandered off to the waterfront festival, where it was confirmed that I was sunburned pretty much all over my upper body, and then it was back home. And now I'm here, eating cookies. Yay!

Now, off to write. :)

Your parents sound like a lot of fun.

How come your brother didn't come with them?

He had to work today and had school yesterday, neither of which he was willing to skip out on. We pretty much knew what he was doing, though, because as soon as my parents leave the house on trips, he lugs his video games downstairs, hooks them up to the bigscreen, and spends the entire weekend in front of the TV eating junk food. He's really predictable. :)

Your parents really do sound fun.

Oh, golf withdrawal. I'm actually very familiar with that. My dad actually managed to watch almost all of NBC's US Open coverage today. He came home FROM GOLFING at 2 and watched the US Open straight through until 7. FIVE HOURS. OF TV GOLF.

Now, I've actually developed a tolerance for TV golf, but enough's enough!

I think his golfing three days a week is due to the fact that my dad had really major surgery (like, not able to walk without crutches for 6 months surgery) and he hasn't been able to golf regularly for almost a year. I honestly don't know whether he's more addicted to golf or cigarettes. o.O

*eyeshift* That sounds suspiciously like me when I see an anteater...

You squeal "Kitty!" when you see an anteater? Impressive. :)

My mom decided that on the way home, with no way to escape except a grisly death, that it was a good idea to inform me that if I wanted to cool off at home, I could go shirtless but not pantless. [1]

Believe me, I was this close to choosing the grisly death.

[1] Of course, this was after I told her that all I wanted to do was -change- shirts. Because conveying information due to vocal modulations is silly.

P.S. Buscemi as the Joker has to be done. It would be a travesty for it not to.

P.P.S. Family outings to places like zoos pissed me off. I was the only one who obeyed the 'Stay with mom' rule. Everyone else ran off in an instant. And my mom, if we are in a place of entertainment, would fail to notice if the people in her charge were actively exploding.

Trollprincess????? IS that YOU????

If it is you, do you remember me?

Back in the day, I used to be Galatea.

I have a new incarnation now.

If you are the Trollprincess I remember, DAMN good to see you again.

If not--well, excuse me. I just got excited seeing an old friend's name--and when I read you got your fan fic start writing Highlander...I thought "Gotta be."

heheheeh

Best wishes.

"You wouldn't think anybody could get golf withdrawal"

Your mom and my dad. There is a reason I refer to him as a golfaholic. During the summer he plays 5 out of 7 days (and no, I'm not joking). He'll play until the temperature in the morning is around or below 35. And GOD FORBID he should miss any opportunity to play or watch. lol

"Oh, and then there was this lovely exchange ..."

My parents have those conversations around me too. I just tell them "Thanks, that's one more memory I'll have to repress." I've lost count of the number of times I've said that.
