I'm starting a meme, just 'cause. ;)

List ten movie soundtracks you love and tell why.

1. Practical Magic -- Okay, the movie's questionable, but I love the soundtrack. It's nice and soft and pretty and makes for great background music. I'm watching the movie right now just for the hell of it and I seriously wish I knew where my copy of the soundtrack is.

2. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone -- I have the entire soundtrack for the first movie in one huge, long file on my MP3 player, and it's perfect to put on when I'm writing.

3. Beetlejuice -- Well, Danny Elfman's just generally cool and everything he touches is awesome, but I have a soft spot for Beetlejuice, just because the main theme is really good for working out to.

4. Chicago -- Damn it, I liked Chicago, even if I'm still bitter it won Best Picture over The Pianist. But honestly, I must have played that CD in my car a million times over. I'm amazed it still works, truth be told.

5. Moulin Rouge -- See, that's the thing. I thought the movie was gorgeous and adored the soundtrack, but the combination of the two of them pissed me off.

6. Bend It Like Beckham -- Whee for Indian music!

7. The Matrix -- Ah, back when the movies didn't suck. Yet another album I pretty much killed in my car stereo.

8. A Knight's Tale -- You know, once you get over the fact that it's a classic rock soundtrack for a medieval movie, it's not a bad mix of music.

9. The Kill Bill movies -- I don't have the whole soundtracks, but every time I pick up a new track off them, I love it. Nice, quirky stuff I've inevitably never heard before.

10. Last of the Mohicans -- So. Freakin'. PRETTY.

Why do all these memes involve CHOOSING? Doesn't anyone understand I can't actually DO that? :D

...It's kind of funny in the middle of that last sentence In Your Eyes came on my launchcast...

New meme, for those of us with no mad decision making skills!

Name your soundtracks. Yes, all of them. Yes, we mean it.

Ooooh. I agree with pretty much all of these except for Last of the Mohicans, which I haven't heard yet. And I don't remember the Practical Soundtrack at all.

That's funny. The first thing that came to mind when I read the MEME was "Last of the Mohicans" :)

I'd add:

"Backdraft" - Ominious and beatiful
"Man in the Iron Mask" for the heroic beat
the LOTR soundtracks - just amazing
"Children of Dune" It's got incredible tempo for the heroic moments and real emotion for the sadder scenes.

I can't think of any others.

I'm stealing this

Tell me about it. Movie soundtracks are where I get most of my music from. ;)

1. Black Hawk Down Favouritest soundtrack ever. Wonderful blend of western techno with eastern beats and the despair and franticness of the instrumentals matches the tone of the film perfectly. Wonderful vocals done by Lisa Gerrard and others, and brilliant use of the track "Minstrel Boy" sung by Joe Strummer.

2. Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring Brilliant music by Howard Shore, once again capturing not only the tone of the film, but also the characteristics of the different races. The best soundtrack to listen to whilst doing homework (the track for the Bridge of Khazad Dum is brilliant for keeping students awake at 3 in the morning.) It also introduces most of the leitmotifs seen in the following soundtracks.

3. Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King sees the maturation and completion of the leitmotifs. This one beats out Two Towers because of Billy Boyd and Viggo Mortensen's singing. Silly fangirl.

4. King Arthur A good strong soundtrack- no faffing about on this one. Captures the mood of the film, and has interesting beats. The drawback for me here is that it's lacking a proper version of Vanora's song, and has the silly "Tell me now" on it. Bah.

5. Pirates of the Carribean just makes me want to get up and dance like a pirate. Not that pirates dance, but you could do a neat little jig to this one.

6. Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers <3 the introduction to Rohan on here. Has to be my favouritest track in the entire movie. Also the eerily haunting ending, sung my Emiliana Torrini (sp?)

7. The Faculty so much love. It's not really an outstanding collection of songs, but they work so well together and in the movie perfectly.

8. Les Triplets de Belleville Okay, the title track is awesome. So are the cariations and the selections from the movie. And it makes me sing along ever. Damn. Time. "je veux etres givres, triplements givres, givres comme une triplet de Belleville." Yeehaw.

9.Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? I love traditional/bluegrass music, and this is just a treat.

10. Moulin Rouge just because.

Okay. In no particular order...

Pirates of the Caribbean. Swashbuckle music taken to the absolute extreme.

Batman (Elfman). I love the way he just throws notes around and they always land in exactly the right place.

The Witches of Eastwick. Better than the Harry Potter music.

Still Crazy. Because I'm an old prog-rocker.

Masque of the Red Death (the Corman/Price one, music by David Lee). I've loved horror film music in general since I was very small (I mean music actually written for horror films, not a collection of pop songs glued on to a horror film). This is one of the best.

Haunted Palace (Corman again, music by Ronald Stein). And this is another. A wonderful waltz.

Bram Stoker's Dracula (just for that one song). Annie Lennox, doing it right.

Lord of the Rings (all of it). Well, obviously.

That's technically ten, isn't it?

Okay, that'll do...there are more, but I'm at work...

I have to agree on Last of the Mohicans. Yum. Plus, it conjures up images of Daniel Day Lewis running around in a loincloth, which makes it doubly yummy.

I can't think of ten, but I can think of one: Swordfish. it wasn't the greatest movie, but when you get Paul Oakenfold to do your soundtrack, well, that's quality.
