Apparently today on [livejournal.com profile] baaaaabyanimals, it's the day to show baaaaby-whatever-your-school-mascots-were. I find myself amused because my high school mascot was the Foresters, in which "Foresters" was a lame synonym for lumberjacks. Why the coaches of our sports teams never pulled us aside after losing games to assure us that we were lumberjacks and we were okay is beyond me.

For added hilarity, my college's mascot was the Indians. Which is kind of lame, but Lumberjacks vs. Indians is sort of a lesser version of Ninjas vs. Pirates or Astronauts vs. Cavemen.

In other news, I haven't watched Pirates of the Caribbean in ages. This must be rectified immediately.

Still makes me giggle every time. :)

I would be in a similar boat, as we were the Saints. Well, technically the Fighting Saints, which always seemed a little off to me.

My high school didn't have anything exciting, but elementary, well... it was the Billy Goats. Or, as they called them, the "Billies."

The town was Pleasant Hill.

We were the Pleasant Hill Billies.

We were the Plainsmen, which is a fancy-shmancy way of saying Indian.

I could put up a picture of a papoose... (Bad Elbie! Non-PC Elbie!)

Dude... my high school? The Spartans. And my colleges? The Blue Streaks. Yeah.

Don't feel badly.

My high schools were the Rangers and the Vikings. No cuddling there.

My daughter's mascot isn't even a living thing- it's a "Seater." It's because our town is the county seat. Apparently, this mascot name earned the school a place on the list of worst school mascot names in America. Not surprising at all.

When I first heard it, I thought they were CEDARS. That was cool- big, strong trees! A girl could get behind that, even hug it, right?

Ha.

The Justices.

My high school mascot was the Red Devils.
In a twist of ironic comedy, my college mascot was the Blue Angels.

I suppose I could post the little baby devil and angels from Sinfest...

Purple! It would *have* to be purple. Maybe, with it's halo hanging off of one of its horns or its prehensile tail holding it's harp or trying to untangle its wings from its trident?

But...*definitely*, PURPLE!!!

Hee-hee-hee-hee-hee-hee-hee-hee-hee-heeee..............

My college? The Flying Dutchman. Creepy undead pirates, right? Should be really awesome? No. We had a guy in Dutch costume that could fly. Or something. It was the subject of many a drunken rant.

I wanted to play, but noooo. Firebirds, Revolutionary Soldiers, and Indians. Not a baaaaaby animal in the bunch. And don't even ask me what my college mascot was, as I'm not even certain we had *sports*. Four years there, and not once did I ever find the gym.

Some of the schools around here have decent mascots...
Caldwell County H.S. (my alma mater) - Tigers
Lyon County H.S. (bordering county) - Lions
Murray State - Racers (think horses)
U. of Kentucky - Wildcats
U. of Louisville - Cardinals
UT-Martin - Skyhawks
Southern Illinois U. - Salukis (they're a breed of dog)

While some other local schools... well, not so much...
Vanderbilt - Commodores
Austin Peay - Governors
Western Kentucky U. - Hilltoppers (the mascot looks like a red version of Grimace)

And there's one high school around here that recently revived their football program, and in the process they totally ripped off the old Minnesota North Stars logo...

Primary school: hot-air balloon
Junior secondary: star
High school: Pallas Athene.

Not a lot of scope for baaaaaby mascots.

You totally should have posted a picture of a little baby in a flannel shirt ;)

My high school was the Raiders (our mascot looked like a drunken Indian). My college was the Yellow Jackets.

But my sister's new high school may be the best ever - the Unicorns (they're a creative & performing arts high school with no sports teams...)

... ours was the Gremlin.

And I don't mean the car, although that would have been amusing.

Do you have any idea how embarrassing it is to show up for a sporting event with the picture of a doofy cartoon Gremlin on your fans?

Date: 2005-07-27 10:20 pm (UTC)

That depends on whether said Gremlin is biting the head off of a Mogwai or not...

*snickers* That'd've been an interesting mascot... but I'm afraid our school rather predated that movie. It was... quite the doofy looking, caricature of a creature. *sighs*

High school was the Dragons, college was the Pioneers. No, seriously.

Once I was driving through east TX and saw a high school with the mascot "the fighting antlers." Not the whole deer, just the antlers, apparently. Yeesh.

Yes.

My high school was cavaliers. I am amused by the concept of small children in three musketeers garb.

Ciollege was terrapins -- turtles -- which is probably weirder but less hilarious.

I believe my high school placed second on the worst-mascot list; it may have been a different list.

Freeport Pretzels. You can eat us but you can't beat us. I have so much more pride in my school now that I'm in college than I did in high school.

Other nearby mascots included the Cheesemakers (who beat us on whatever list it was) and the Hubs, who were apparently broken-off wheel centers.
